I don’t have anything against Rain, but I don’t think he deserves that high of a spot of being one of the most influential people in the world. If it weren’t for Bill Gates, we’d probably wouldn’t have known about Rain in the first place.

First off, you’re assuming that I was a fan. And to the Rain fans, you yourself seem obnoxious. If you knew more about the situation in Africa, Bono isn’t exactly the Christ of Charity as some make him out as. He’s a great speaker, sure, and he has many rich friends who can donate. But its all in a lost cause; barely any of that money raised goes to those children. The corrupt governments of Africa and its leaders are stealing most of that money. Bono participated a similar fundraiser in the 80s, millions of dollars were raised, and today not a single improvement was shown for it. From an objective standpoint, and how some historians could label him in the future, I’d say he’s an naive idiot with a good heart. Many celebrities have been to Africa or raised money to fight diseases such as AIDS. So does Rain, and many of those other people on the list.
As for the matter of Rain’s influence, his resume is very impressive, and he could potentially be the first successful crossover into the Western market from Asia. He’s not a household name, yet that doesn’t mean he’s not influential. The votes speak for themselves. Rain is influential to the point that his fans will vote for him repeatedly, as some assume they have. Topping, or at least charting in many of those countries is a feat not done by many music artists. As for the argument of him being a JYP puppet? No one said otherwise, and no one cares. Rain is an entertainer before an artist. Many musical artists don’t write their own lyrics, don’t produce their own music, and yet they’re extremely successful. That’s the music industry, and Rain is there to perform.
And by the looks of the votes, he’s here to stay.

Once again, you fail to realize that the votes are for the most influential. Not the most deserving, not the most world changing. I never said he was great and I even admitted his shortcoming as an overall musical artist (being more of an entertainer than an artist).

First, as a singer, he has been the leader of the trend since 2005 all over Asia. Nearly every Asian singer has tried to imitate his dance n style. He has had constant breakthroughs(innovative dance n a world-class world tour) though he has already been very successful in Asia. This year, he has well-prepared himself to introduce his unique dance(fusion of east n west) to the US. Though he knows it is extremely difficult for him to gain the popularity, he still insists on striving toward his goal.
His professionalism is revealed when he got bone fracture in his arm in an accident(due to the carelessness of a staff)in the HK concert (13/1). Despite his injury, he still performed so well that no one sensed his pain. He didn’t cancel the next concert in Singapore though he had not recovered yet. His stubbornness is just due to his unwillingness to break his promise to his Singaporean fans.
As an actor, his acting skills have been recognised since he was nominated the Best Actor in the Berlin Film Festival n the HK international Film Awards, thoughit is only his first film.
Rain’s motto is “hardwork, ambition and perseverance”. He has set a model for us, especially the youngsters nowadays who lack life goals n those positive values.
Besides, he has done some charity this year such as donation n visiting the orphanage. He is a very famous star , but in reality, he is a humble and polite man. His disposition has never changed since he became a famous singer.
Last but not least, It is not very difficult for a star to rise abruptly, but it is difficult for a star to maintain his popularity with a constant positive image,
innovation n hardwork. 2007 is still the Year of Rain in Asia n the Year of his US Debut.

Akulturasi Budaya Hindu-Budha dan Islam dengan Budaya Lokal
Setelah budaya Hindu-Budha berakulturasi dengan budaya lokal, agama Islam yang masuk ke nusantara kembali merombak budaya lokal hingga terjadilah percampuran budaya yang berakar dari agama Hindu, Budha dan Islam. Sebenarnya tidak terlalu berbeda dengan percampuran budaya lokal dan budaya Islam mengingat sebelumnya telah terjadi percampuran dengan budaya Hindu-Budha yang menyebabkan lahirnya budaya baru.
Material
Bukti-bukti berupa barang nyata akan adanya akulturasi lokal dnegan budaya Hindu-Budha-Islam:
1. Arsitektur
Adanya beberapa arsitektur dari Masjid tua dan bersejarah yang mengadopsi arsitektur khas Cina lalu memadukannya dengan gaya arsitektur lokal dan Timur Tengah. Contohnya adalah Masjid Azizi di Tanjung Pura, Kabupaten Langkat, Sumatera Utara. Masjid berarsitektur abad XX ini memiliki menara bernuansa Cina di menara yang menjulang di pelatarannya. Pada pintunya terdapat ukir-ukuran Cina seperti yang ada di Kelenteng.
2. Adanya pemakaian kubur. Di zaman Hindu-Budha, seseorang dikuburkan dan diberi semacam bangunan entah berupa batu nisan bahkan candi. Bercampur dengan agama Islam, kubur tersebut dihiasi oleh tulisan kaligrafi dan disesuaikan dengan cara penguburan masyarakat Islam yakni jenazah menghadap ke arah kiblat. Sekarang kebanyakan masyarakat islam menguburkan dnegan batu nisan yang lebih sederhana dan tetap menghadap ke arah kiblat, meski beberapa makam masih berbentuk sederhana (ditandai dengan sebuah papan nama saja).
Immaterial
Bukti-bukti immaterial akan terjadinya akulturasi antara budaya lokal dengan budaya Hindu-Budha-Islam:
1. Adanya tradisi berziarah ke makam leluhur
Masyarakat berziarah ke makam leluhurnya sebagai bentuk rasa hormat, mendoakan arwah orang yang telah meninggal juga memohon restu dan berkah dari arwah tersebut.
Ciri Hindu-Budha yang ada di poin ini adalah adanya tradisi pemujaan terhadap
arwah nenek moyang berkembang menjadi kebiasaan meminta doa atau restu. Ciri Islam yang ada di poin ini adalah adanya tradisi berkunjung ke makam leluhur yang dilakukan pada hari-hari besar seperti Idul Fitri.
2. Bidang pendidikan
Adanya lembaga pendidikan bagi masyarakat yang pada kdua masa itu, kebanyakan terdiri dari golongan kelas atas (golongan keluarga raja dan bangsawan). Di Jawa, agama Hindu dan Budha mempunyai lembaga pendidikan yang disebut padepokan, dimana didalamnya ada unsur shastri (guru) dan cantrik (murid).
Ketika zaman kerajaan Islam, konsep lembaga pendidikan yang dikembangkan mengadopsi konsep pondokheyon (berasal dari Yunani yang berarti asrama atau penginapan bagi orang-orang yang sedang menuntut ilmu pengetahuan. Kata ini kemudian diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Arab menjadi funduq yang sekarang berarti hotel), konsep zawiyah dan konsep padepokan Hindu Budha, menjadi bernama pondok pesantren. Pondok berasal dari konsep pondokheyon, pesantren berasal dari pe-cantrikan- juga dengan unsur kiyahi (dari konsep shastri) dan santri (dari konsep cantrik). Jadi konsep pesantren sesungguhnya merupakan hasil dari dialog peradaban.
3. Bidang Politik pengaruh kebudayaan Hindu-Budha dan kebudayaan Islam pada konsep kekuasaan.
Kekuasaan raja-raja Hindu-Budha bersifat turun temurun, berbeda dengan kerajaan Islam yang tidak mengharuskan keturunan bangsawan dalam memilih raja. Di kerajaan islam, sbeutan raja berubah menjadi sultan. Tetapi pemahaman bahwa Raja adalah utusan Allah di dunia tidak berubah banyak sejak zaman Hindu-Budha, karena kerajaan-kerajaan yang berdiri di nusantara pun bercorak agama (Hindu, Budha atau Islam).
4. Kemiripan tata cara pengangkatan seorang raja yang harus diurapi atau ditahbiskan oleh seorang wali. Dalam kerajaan Hindu, pengukuhan tersebut dilakukan oleh imam Brahmana sedangkan di agama Islam tugas tersebut diemban oleh sunan.

Kebudayaan Islam yang masuk membuat kebudayaan Indonesia menjadi semakin beragam. Kebudayaan lokal yang telah bercampur dengan kebudayaan Hindu-Budha, berakulturasi lagi dengan kebudayaan Islam hingga menghasilkan budaya baru yang beragam. Setelah kedatangan para pedagang dan penyebaran agama Islam, lambat laun unsur-unsur budaya tersebut diterima tanpa menghilangan budaya lokal hingga lahir budaya Indonesia baru yang berciri asli lokal, Hindu-Budha dan Islam.
Contoh bukti akulturasi budaya lokal dengan budaya Islam secara material:
1. Arsitektur
Perpaduan antara seni budaya Indonesia dengan budaya Islam pada seni bangunan atau arsitektur dapat dilihat melalui bangunan Masjid, makam dan batu nisan.
Masjid
Corak Islam yang dapat dilihat melalui Masjid adalah sebagai berikut:
a. Atap (bagian yang melingkupi ruang bujur sangkar)
Atap bukan berupa kubah melainkan berupa atap tumpang, yaitu atap yang bersusun, semakin ke atas semakin kecil. Tingkatan paling atas membentuk limas. Jumlah tumpang selalu ganjil, biasanya 3, tapi ada juga yang lima, contohnya seperti Masjid Banten
b. Menara
Menara Mesjid Kudus merupakan sebuah candi Jawa Timur yang telah diubah dan disesuaikan penggunaannya serta diberi atap tumpang. Sedang menara Masjid Banten adalah tambahan yang diusahakan oleh seorang pelarian Belanda bernama Cardeel.
c. Letak Masjid
Pada umumnya masjid didirikan berdekatan dengan istana. Kalau di sebelah utara dan selatan istana biasanya terdapat sebuah lapangan, yang di Jawa disebut alun-alun, maka masjid didirikan di tepi barat alun-alun.
Makam
Kuburan atau makam biasanya diabadikan atau diperkuat dengan bangunan dari batu yang disebut jirat atau kijing. Di atas jirat ini sering juga didirikan sebuah rumah yang disebut cungkup atau kubah.
Makam tertua di Indonesia adalah makam Fatimah binti Maimun yang lebih terkenal dengan nama putri Suwari Dileran (tahun 1082 M), dan makamnya justru diberi cungkup. Makam ini mirip candi. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa pada abad ke-11 masyarakat masih terikat pada bentuk candi.
Batu Nisan
Pada makam Sultan Malik Al-Saleh ditemukan adanya akulturasi kebudayaan Islam dan lokal (Aceh dan Melayu). Sebelum kedatangan Islam, orang Aceh dan Melayu menhias kubur dengan batu bersayap. Setelah kedatangan Islam, batu bersayap tersebut ditambahkan dnegan tulisan kaligrafi.
Batu nisan dari makam Malik Ibrahin di Gresik diperkirakan berasal dari Cambay, Gujarat, India. Hal ini menunjukkan luasnya peta keadaan geografis agama Islam hingga sampai ke Indonesia.
Ada nisan, jirat yang dihiasi susunan bingkai yang meniru bingkai candi. Pada dinding cungkup (rumah makan) dan gapura makam Sunan Bayat di Klaten, corak dan pola hiasnya mirip dengan yang ada di Pura Sekalengan di Bali Selatan, sementara nisan di Madura berbentuk gunungan.
2. Seni Rupa
Ciri khusus seni rupa pada masa Indonesia Islam adalah nonfigural dan munculnya aksara Arab dalam ragam hias, seperti kaligrafi. Sifat nonfigural ini berkaitan dnegan hadis nabi yang melarang mmbuat gambar atau pahatan berbentuk makhluk bernyawa—dalam seni, tidak boleh bersifat biologis. Karena itu para seniman menyiasati larangan itu dalam berkarya dengan cara disamarkan atau distilir.
3. Seni Sastra
Karya sastra pada zaman Indonesia-Islam diawali dengan berkembangnya sastar saduran di daerah Melayu dan sastra saduran di Jawa. Sumber utama karya sastra saduran itu berasal dari karya sastra Persia dan Jawa Kuno. Karya sastra saduran di Jawa ditulis dengan huruf Jawa dan huruf Arab sedangkan karya sastra saduran di Melayu dengan huruf Arab.
Karya sastra Persia yang menjadi bahan saduran antara lain cerita mengenai Bayan Budiman, Amir Hamzah dan cerita seribu satu malam yang terkenal itu. Di daerah Melayu, mucul karya saduran seperti Hikayat Ghulam dan Hikayat Bakhtiar. Di Jawa, karya sastra berkembang dalam bentuk karangan dengan sumber karya sastra kuno seperti Hikayat Perang Pandawa dan Hikayat Sri Rama yang dipengaruhi Mahabarata dan Ramayana.
Immaterial
Adalah bukti akulturasi yang tidak berupa benda, melainkan berupa sesuatu yang tidak berwujud seperti adat istiadat, kebiasaan, pola gaya hidup dan lain sebagainya.
1. Dalam hal perawatan jenazah, ajaran Islam mewajibkan empat hal, yaitu:
- memandikan jenazah, kecuali mati sahid (mati jihad, orang yang meninggal karena membela agama—dalam hal ini dikatakan agama Islam)
- membungkus jenazah dengan kain kafan
- mendoakan / mensalatkan jenazah
- menguburkan jenazah dnegan posisi kiblat
2. Pemakaian kubur dan batu nisan Islam menggambarkan adanya cara baru dalam menguburkan orang mati
3. Tradisi berziarah ke makam leluhur sebagai bentuk rasa hormat terhadap nenek moyang. Di masyarakat Islam Indonesia, tradisi ini dilakukan pada hari-hari besar keagaam seperti Idul Fitri. Maksud kunjungan tersebut bukan hanya untuk berziarah tapi juga memohon doa restu dan berkah dari arwah yang telah meninggal tersebut.
4. Sistem pemerintahan
Mulai dari berdiri hingga berkembangnya Kerajaan Samudra Pasai, memberi pengaruh tersendiri bagi masyarakat untuk memeluk agam Islam. Hal ini diikuti dengan runtuhnya Kerajaan Majapahit, disusul dengan berdirinya kerajaan Islam lainnya pasca keruntuhan Samudra Pasai. Berdirinya Kerajaan Demak membuat perkembangan Islam semakin pesat hingga menyebar di nyaris segala pelosok Indonesia seperti Gresik, Tuban, Jepara, Pasuruan, Banten, Cirebon, Banjarmasin, Makassar, hingga Tidore dan Ternate. Pada kerajaan-kerajaan bercorak Islam, mucul golongan masyarakat yang memiliki pengaruh besar dalam kekuasaan yakni kaum alim ulama. Mereka bertugas menjaga moralitas sosial, mengingatkan rakyat dan penguasa agar hidup sesuai dengan ajaran-ajaran agama Islam.
5. Filsafat dan ajaran Islam
Di abad ke-8 M tersusun dasar-dasar ilmu Fikih, yaitu ilmu yang menguraikan segala macam peraturan serta hukum untuk menetapkan kewajiban-kewajiban masyarakat terhadap Tuhan dan terhadap sesama manusia. Pada abad ke-10 M lahirlah dasar-dasar ilmu Qalam, yaitu berisi penetapan segala apa yang harus menjadi kepercayaan seorang muslim. Pada abad ke-11 M lahir dasar-dasar ilmu Tasawwuf, yaitu memberi jalan kepada manusia untuk mendekatkan diri kepada Tuhan berdasarkan cinta terhadapNya.
6. Adat istiadat
Upacara Grebeg dan Sekaten yang diciptakan oleh Sultan Agung dari Kerajaan Mataram Islam adalah salah satu bukti adanya percampuran budaya (adat istiadat) lokal dnegan Islam. Upacara Grebeg dilakukan tiga kali setahun saat menjelang Idul Fitri, Idul Adha dan setiap Maulid Nabi sedangkan upacara Sekaten dirayakan setahun sekali, yaitu saat memperingati hari kelahiran Nabi Muhamad. Karena itu, baik upacara Sekaten dan Grebeg merupakan percampuran anaara dua budaya (akulturasi budaya). Perlu diingat disini bahwa Maulid Nabi bukan upacara keagamaan, jadi upacara Grebeg Maulid bukan Sinkretisme (percampuran agama).
