-why didn’t they just make it ‘Hello Miss!’?-

i’m not making synopsis for each episode, since you can get better recaps of the storyline from some devoted writers somewhere else easily. and the drama’s over anyway.  so this is no detailed review, just a simple one. as i usually do.

Aired: March 19, 2007 – May 8, 2007  KBS (16 episodes)

synopsis

Hwa Ahn Dang owner, Soo Ha, is trying to save the place from being bankrupt. She meets Dong Gyu and Chang Min, the grandsons of a wealthy man, who had worked for a long time at Hwa Ahn Dang before. Together with a crazy woman’s daughter ‘Hwa Ran’, they get involve in a dangerous love story… This drama is adapted from the novel, “Kimchi Mandu.” (koreandrama.org)

Cast:

pdvd_039.jpgLee Dae Hee as Lee Su Ha

i hate Lee Dae Hee. duh..what else can i do to see someone my age, making definitely more income than me by kissing around some of the hottest men in South Korea?…okay..envy, not hate.

Her acting here reminds me of hers in My Girl. Not about the characters, but more to her facial expression. She has this comical way to interpret her roles, and seems like it shows up in every role she plays. not that it is boring, but then i know what to expect the next time i see her in dramas.  but i have to say, among other K-actresses i’ve ever seen, she looks best in hanbok.

pdvd_038.jpgLee Ji Hoon as Hwang Dong Gyu

Lee Ji Hoon was never my favorite actor. but i like him here. He plays Hwang Dong Gyu which is a rather naive person, and he manages to make it somewhat natural. you can laugh just to see his face.

pdvd_014.jpgHa Seok Jin as Hwang Chan Min

LOL..bad snapshot, i know..but i’m so into Ha Seok Jin, don’t get me wrong.

Hwang Chan Min is a poor character. He has everything, but he’s under Dong Gyu’s shadow. He changes to be the villain in the middle of the story, but you can never hate him..one thing i recognized from Ha Seok Jin is that he has very expressive eyes i found in his dramas and movies. So i think, just like Lee Dae Hee, we can expect that in his upcoming works.

pdvd_007.jpgYoon Mi Su as Suh Hwa Ran

Right, her turn. umm..well, you gotta have the look, tall, slim, and all that to be the love rival or villain in a Kdrama. She’s a pure villain, since she holds the grudge ever since she was a kid. She is supposed to be not that evil, coz she loves her mother and Joo Young. But it doesn’t appear like that. till the end, Yoon Mi Su’s Suh Hwa Ran (geez these names..) still has the evil look.

pdvd_013.jpg Ryan as Joon Yong (Lee Su Ha’s brother)

If it was me, i’d cry if he has to be my brother…LOL..he’s my favorite character in this drama. But he lacks of expression..i dunno why. but his face always looks the same..hmmm..Catch him singing in eps. 15. nnnice!!

pdvd_015.jpgIs that really him singing the song?can anyone tell me, coz i found out that it’s someone named  Yoo Chang sings ‘She’, not Ryan. Who’s this Yoo Chang anyway?

Watching the drama

If there’s something defined as obstacle of watching standard 16 episode korean dramas, for me,  it’s to get thru 9-14th episodes. and for typical romance drama, it usually goes like this :

eps.  1-4 ~ thrilled, excited for new drama

eps.  5-8 ~ the biorhytm slides down. let’s count how many love stories we have in this drama.

eps.  9-14 ~ for God’s sake! why on earth the problems keep coming and unsolved!where’s the button??fast forward!

eps. 15-16 ~ now we can see the end of the tunnel…biorythm up the hill again..

well, not always like that. but it was like that when i watched H!M.

Early episodes were fun. I was soo excited to see Ha Seok Jin again. and Dong Gyu was funny too, with his grumbling over Lee Su Ha and his grandpa. Plus bonus eyecandy : the cool expressionless half-brother showed up.

Then somehow, it was getting boring. More coincidences happened. side love story too, of course, and it was annoying, Kkot Bun and Joon Young’s story. People were making all things complicated, and the villains were getting nastier, while Lee Su Ha and Dong Gyu could do nothing about it.

Finally, eps.15…love found its way, very cute. but no goal yet.
