Rain’s near show appearance on ‘The Colbert Show’ -Star News

It has been lately discovered, the world star Rain, who had received great attention on the parody of himself on the American comedian Stephen Colbert’s show, had promised to appear on this show has been lately discovered.

According to Rain’s part, Stephen Colbert’s side who heard of the news of the planned New York concert for Rain’s world tour, requested a show appearance. About this, Rain’s part responded joyously and agreed that Rain will appear on Stephen Colbert’s talk show ‘Colbert Report’, sing two songs and also have a sufficient amount of time to chat.

Colbert received a great amount of attention for his parody of the music video ‘Escaping from the Sun’ last month on the ‘Colbert Report’, about coming in 2nd behind Rain in the ‘Time 200′ online vote. However, as the Korean media pointed out and claimed that he was mocking and ridiculing Rain, Colbert said ‘I have been hurt greatly by the Korean press and netizen’s misunderstanding.

However, Rain had said ‘I enjoyed it very much. It’s something to be thankful of’ about Cobert’s parody of his music video and expressed his thanks on the introduction of his himself on a program featured all over America.

Unfortunately, this predicted very big eventful meeting of Rain and Stephen Colbert has vanished with the postponing of his American tour.

As Bi’s english name ‘Rain’ became an obstacle and has led to his American tour, including New York, to be cancelled, both sides came to the conclusion that the show appearance would be meaningless and cancelled the meeting for the moment and decided that he will appear later as Rain’s New York concert is confirmed.

Rain’s side stated ‘Rain was also strongly looking forward to appearing on this show and it has turned out unfortunately.’ Meanwhile Rain is expected to continue to hold his LA concert as planned on the 30th, and he is expected to complete the remaining American concerts and schedules after he has finished the shooting of his Hollywood movie ‘Speed Racer’ this coming October.

No Rain, but clouds of confusion persist

What was anticipated to be one of Hawai’i’s biggest hallyu events to date became the biggest disappointment when Rain’s Aloha Stadium concert was canceled Tuesday.

The news was announced by local event company Click Entertainment Hawai’i president Lee Sung Soo only four days before the Friday concert date. At the news conference, Lee didn’t use the words “canceled” or “postponed.” In fact, a lot of reporters were confused.

Lee said that he was not officially told that the concert was canceled or delayed, and had been overwhelmed by the amount of news on the Internet saying that many U.S. concerts had been canceled or delayed. Just a week before the scheduled concert, Lee had also discovered that Rain and his entourage of 200 hadn’t even reserved seats on Korean Air flights from Seoul to Honolulu.

Most online news refers to the lawsuit filed by Nevada-based Rain Corp., which contends that in the U.S., it has the rights to the name, used by a Beatles tribute band.

Refunds will be given at the point of sale, and Click Entertainment Hawaii will refund VIP tickets starting Wednesday at their office in Samsung Plaza on Ke’eaumoku Street.

Confusion and ambiguity surrounding not only the news conference, but also the Hawai’i concert, had an interesting beginning. For months, I had heard rumors of Rain coming to Hawai’i for a concert. Then, a few months back, Click Entertainment announced at a news conference that Rain would perform at Aloha Stadium. I called JYP, Rain’s management company in South Korea, and my source there said there was no confirmation on the Hawai’i concert at that time.

My source said there was dialogue about Hawai’i but could not go into detail. Although JYP is Rain’s management company, the pop star’s U.S. concerts have been negotiated by another company. In fact, several companies are involved, and it was obvious that Click Entertainment Hawai’i was not talking with JYP.

To add more confusion, concert dates, originally set for July, were moved back and forth. Concert-date confirmation happened right after Mother’s Day, only a month before the show was to go on. JYP confirmed the concert in Hawai’i on the same day.

Ticket prices were changed without much advance notice.

Lee, a new resident of Hawai’i, invested what he says was a “large amount” of his own money.

Fast-forward three weeks, and all of a sudden, there is the lawsuit, Rain doesn’t have a flight booked to Honolulu and the Internet is rife with news about the cancellation or postponement of Rain’s U.S. concerts.

When I called Click Entertainment Hawai’i, they said they did not know the details regarding the news in Korea. Nor were they clear about whether the concert would go on.

Coincidentally, ticket sales in Hawai’i were not as good as had been anticipated, according to my source at Click Entertainment Hawai’i. Other ticket retailers also reported low ticket sales. One vendor told me he sold just one ticket. There were estimates that 3,000 to 5,000 tickets were sold — for a show with 20,000 capacity.

In a place that has a high hallyu fan base, why weren’t ticket sales better? Poor marketing, high ticket prices and time constraints all added up to low ticket sales.

I heard of rumors that thousands of tickets were being offered to people who couldn’t afford the concert tickets. Only one thing is sure: The Friday concert did not happen. Rain did not set foot on Hawaiian soil. And there is much confusion among fans here on whether the concert is postponed or canceled. What about the overseas fans who had to scheduled trips just for the concert? For sponsors, many have taken financial losses as advertisements were bartered for tickets, services contracted are not executed, and other concert-related logistics have become a nightmare.

In a complicated chain of events that involves a multitude of companies, there is no one to blame. It appears that Click Entertainment Hawai’i is just as confused as the fans, as their source of concert information is Internet news from Korea.

For fans hoping for a rescheduled show: My gut feeling is that’s not going to happen — if it were otherwise, why would they refund tickets?
