That being said… you gotta admit, it’s an American debut that will be seen across all of the US and the leading lady is a white woman. They never put an Asian man with a white woman in films. Only Asian woman. I think this film (while still doing some stereotypical things) could break other stereotypes. My two cents.

on the point of that jang hyuk film from singapore, isn’t it called Dance of the Dragon (?) and he’s gonna show off his martial arts besides the dancing?

come to think of it, lee byung-hun’s “hollywood debut” has him play a chinese gangster too.

i do agree totally with both of rocketful’s remarks in both her postings……Jang Dong Gun is already bigtime without Hollywood.Anyway because I hope his movie LW will be a whopping boxoffice because I believe that he is a great actor….good luck Mr Jang!!!!!

I guess it’s a guy vs a girl thing…because a ballroom dancer falling in love with a woman?….lol. hmm..sounds like a Richard Gere movie that was based on a Japanese movie….

I just don’t think it should be a stigma for Asians to be doing Martial Arts movies where Asian Americans consider it a bad thing…considering he already did The Promise.

I’m sure he’ll find some other movie to do where he can “save the last dance”….but now is not the time.

April–thanks for the added info i didn’t know they had something about it at Wikipedia. the movie sounds even worser to me now. but i love jang dong-gun so much that i would still pay to see it because of him.hehehehehe:D

rocketfuel—first of all i am not trying to take the fun away from anyone, and i have nothing against Kung Fu movies. but that genre and others that i mentioned in my post is not the only acting that asian actors can do. it may seem like i am over analyzing the movie, i am just voicing my concerns with it. but i do agree that there are not enough asian roles in hollywood, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any good quality ones either. take jang hyuk for instinsts he has a upcoming hollywood movie where he will play a ballroom dancer falling in love with a woman whom is already taken by someone else http://shenyuepop.com/2007/07/18/jang-hyuk-in-singapore/. and i am not saying his movie will be better than Jang Dong-gun, but it is different in what we are used to seeing asian actors cast as.

Here’s more info on the story line…it hasn’t been updated so I’m sure there are a few things they’ve already changed.

I’m assuming Jang Dong-gun is the sword fighting laundry man. (Which is LAME!!!)

Making the Asian man the laundry guy…and I’m sure they’re going to go crazy with wire-work since its a fantasy action movie.

So far the only thing I like about this movie is that there is a little girl named April.

that’s it.
