Is the U.S. music industry following the steps of Kpop in making their own idol group?

The U.S. music industry started making boybands long before Kpop picked up the concept.

No.

Korea “followed” the US boyband boom in the 90s.
And it never really died down after that.

So technically US is just rediscovering it.
And KPOP copied it.

nlt has been around for ages, they started under the label TUG (the ultimate group) the same label of omarion, b2k marques houston etc..

And if you weren’t born in 80s you probably didn’t know that.
Was a big fan of boybands from Britain and the US back in the early/late 90s.

It’s more like Korea is finally catching up to the boy band fever. In fact one of THE boy bands of the late 80s, early 90s is trying their hand at a comeback. The New Kids on the Block are releasing a new single, making an appearance on the Today Show and doing a concert tour.

In your haste to reinvent the wheel, you skipped over boy bands like menudo, new edition, boys to men, color me badd, 98 degrees and of course Nsync & the Backstreet boys.

But we must not forget the “boy band” that, in my opinion started it all, the Beatles. Anyone after them is just a variation of them.

Their suppose to be on tour with menudo and some other bands for Bandamonium. I kinda laughed when i heard about this band for the first time, because i didn’t think we still had boy bands around.

Boybands were American first, and these NLT guys just weren’t popular. They’re not really new. :/

i highly doubt that boy bands will be back in the US with the same force as Backstreet Boys and Nsync…at least not any time soon..sure they might get the support of pre-teens, but teenagers and young adults are more into rock and hip hop…boy bands are just not “cool” anymore..they seem to be relegated as music for kids

as to how DLT dress…isn’t that how punk skaters dress? i swear i have seen a bunch of kids in my neighborhood dressed like that on thier skateboards…so i think that is the style they are trying to copy, not necessarily Big Bang *shrugs*

Even so, I really doubt that the US is “following the steps of Kpop in making their own idol group”. Remember, we had the Backstreet Boys and N*Sync before Korean music even started catching on in the United States.
(FYI, I know BSB and N*Sync weren’t the first. That’s not what I’m saying.)

I’ve seen That Girl & She Said, I Said(<–FYI)that’s right its a good clips and the songs. And I don’t think they’re ripping off the KPOP artists, perhaps if they were, it means US boyband is looking up for the KPOP and/or Asian artists, having said that it can also means one thing, our KPOP are doing an awesome job and setting a good vibe examples in the music industry. We never know next thing we’ll know DBSK or BIG BANG are well known around the world, and I’m sure that’ll be the happiest moment for both groups and for the fans!!!

NLT isn’t popular because boybands in the u.s. aren’t anymore. nobody cares about boybands anymore. the only type they do care are the type that actually plays instruments.

[IMO] by “idol”, she doesn’t mean musically; she means based off appearance. i mean honestly, look at most current Korean idols (esp. girl or boy bands) CAN THEY REALLY SING? they’re not all amazingly known for their voices, instead they’re known for ‘good looks’ and looking ‘cute’ and shit.

First of all, the US can’t catch something they’ve always had. Secondly, the US doesn’t make “idol groups” they make boy bands you know like 98 Degrees, DreamStreet. Something you would know if you knew anything about the US.

As a Big Bang and a NLT fan I feel I must clarify this atrocious misconception. BB is obviously influenced by the US; groups like B2K, Usher, Omarion, JT, Kanye West, Obie Trice. So people need to stop trippin’ and writing things like the US is copying Korea. It’s the other way around especially considering how mass-produced Korean artists are. Not to diss my Suju boys but most korean artists have little to no talent except looking cute on the screen. Even that doesn’t always work. Why do you think BB wears skinny jeans, converses and hoodies? It’s b/c AMERICAN artists like Kanye made it hot. Why do girls like Hyo Ri and Seo In Young do the booty pop? It’s b/c Beyonce, an AMERICAN artist made it hot. You’ll never see Beyonce, Alicia Keyes or Rhianna doing BoA, Jewelry or Girl’s Generation songs, but you sure will see Hyo Ri doing songs by Beyonce.

Moreover, the guys from NLT are talented something groups like Wonder Girls don’t even know how to spell. (Not to bash WG; even though I don’t like them, I’m just using them as an example) NLT is influenced by superstars like Michael Jackson,N*SYNC and BSB, you know the original AMERICAN artists and boy bands who owned INTERNATIONALLY.

Not trying to be rude but please check yourselves when you write nonsense like NLT/American boy bands are copying Korea. Please give credit where credit is due. These boys (NLT, BB) are working hard and deserve to be recognized. If America started copying the Korean music industry we’d have less psychos like Britney Spears and more talent-less hacks like Jewelry.

Once again, I am a Big Bang/Super Junior fan. I love these boys. But this is ridiculous. If you believe that the US is copying Korea, then you’ve lived a very sheltered life. Come now. Let’s be serious people.

To the above quote NLT and BB have been around for around the same time and yes, NLT has been very successful for a band that hasn’t even DEBUTED. They’ve got fans all across the US and they haven’t even released their first album. Get your facts straight. Honestly, I’m from NYC and I’m open to just about any type of music. But this is a total turn-off to Korean music. Ya’ll straight tripping with this nonsense. Soyboy, the person who wrote this article and anyone who buys this garbage are all tripping. they aren’t that bad…but when it comes down to it, Big bang is just so much better. The quality of their songs and their dancing is much better. These boys are stiff. Their choreography is not as good as most K pop choreography. When it comes down to it…they are boring…or maybe I’m just kpop/asian boy biased. mmmmmmm asian boys.

uh, BB is so totally american influenced that to say ANY american band ripped off K bands is a bit laughable, cos you know, BB is SOOOO very original…

Kpoppers are not original – neither dance nor content. They take dance moves off of black people and sing the same old same old about love/sex/

Now don’t get me wrong. I adore BB and NLT both.

But saying that America is copying off of them? When has America ever looked outside of its own borders for inspiration? Artists like Beyonce, Snoop Dog, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears are NOT Korean. They are American. And with star potential like that within their own borders, America needs no Kpop influence.

And the crowning point, boy band fever has DIED DOWN in the U.S. There would be no need to create any if the aim was for them to become popular.
