Big Bang is back with their much anticipated 3rd mini-album, “Stand Up”, released on August 8, 2008 (Beijing Olympics start!). This fortuitous day will make this album all the more memorable. Big Bang is already on a good start running towards the gold as they garnered an impressive 100,000 preorders! (This figure not only shows their immense popularity – on par with Seo Taiji’s record-breaking sales- but also  the significance of illegal album leakage before designated release dates, which occurred too often this year.)

The MV was delayed from August 1st due to heavy downpour over Seoul. It features actress Park Min Young, who plays G-Dragon’s love interest. She hides the devastating truth of her terminal illness from GD and gets caught up in a love triangle with TOP. While filming the MV, G-Dragon got too absorbed in acting that he injured himself from shattering glass. However, despite his injury he was able to finish filming. His appearance in the parking garage in a campy outfit is questionable, yet his acting skills, along with the other Big Bang members were more than convincing.

The song in the MV is “Everyday, Everyday” (Haru Haru), which was a collaboration of Daishi Dance (Japanese indie-House band) and G-Dragon. It shows off some Daishi Dance’s intricate piano arrangement and Big Bang’s matured vocals and rap.

Jaeurazn on Youtube made an awesome preview clip of Big Bang’s 3rd album Stand Up, collecting 1:30 snippets of all the songs.

Tracklist :

01 . Intro (Stand Up)
02 . 하루 하루 (Everyday Everyday)
03 . 천국 (Heaven)
04 . 착한 사람 (Nice Person)
05 . Lady
06 . Oh My Friend

I’m surprised at the variety of songs that compose this album. “Everyday Everyday” is a house song that fuses well with Big Bang’s heart-felt R&B vocals. “Lady” is an 80’s upbeat song that’s nice to sing along to. But the most surprising track is “Oh My Friend”, which is a rock song that perhaps makes its tributes to YG Entertainment’s rock roots from CEO Yang Hyun Suk, who was part of Seo Tai Ji and Boys. Despite the departure from hip-pop and R&B, Big Bang proves that they can trenscend genre barriers to deliver good, refreshing music.
