Shinhwa released a limited ‘White Edition‘ repackaged album along with the music video for their new song, “Destiny of Love,” on July 4. The ‘White Edition‘ is a repackaged version of Shinhwa’s 9th album, which ranked 1st in album sales for 2008, surpassing the 100,000 mark in a little over 1 month after its release (all without promotions!).
Their new song “Destiny of Love” is about a sad farewell, alluding to Shinhwa’s own departure from their fans as members will start to leave for military service by the end of this year. The song was written by Shin Hye Sung and composed by Lee Minwoo. The music video was made in commemoration of their 10th Anniversary Concert as a reminder to their loyal fans of their everlasting love.

Popdiva Uhm Jung Hwa released her 10th album (wow!) today, making a comeback after a 2 year hiatus. Her mini-album “D.I.S.C.O.” will defintely be blasting in clubs all summer long, causing ‘panic at the disco.’ I didn’t know Jung Hwa could pull off her ‘Korean Madonna’ concept, but she did with outlandish colors. Lee Hyori must be biting her fingernails because her “leaked” teaser is no match against Jung Hwa. All Lee Hyori has achieved so far is to package herself into a pop icon but end up putting Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein to shame by looking kitsch. Both popdivas will be fighting ferociously for the Pop Queen throne. This will be interesting to see, but I think I already know who won.
Uhm Jung Hwa brings a trendy, disco song as her title track, aptly named “DISCO.” The music video features Big Bang’s T.O.P., who looks hotter than ever with his tantalizing smile. Choreographer Shaun Evaristo, who also chreographed Taeyang’s MVs, worked on Jung Hwa’s MV. Here’s his comment on his experience:
“getting to work with uhm has been really fun. there’s this energy about her that i love and she brings the room up when she’s in it. she works hard and her new music is dope! i mean i’ve never heard it before this but the new sound they got going for her is tight!!! i wish i understood korean man, cuz making things up would be soo much easier. hahah oh and her dog is really cool, makes me miss my dog:(.” Read more HERE>>>
The album contains 6 tracks, produced by the Teddy-Kush combo, who have also worked on Big Bang Taeyang’s solo album. All the songs are surprisingly hip and makes you want to take your dance shoes out and groove to the music. Besides composing, Perry and G-Dragon also featured in two songs, “Shake It” and “Party”, respectively. The song “Party”, in which G-dragon featured, showcases a sweet piano arrangement, and of course, GD’s power rap. But my personal favorite has to go to “DJ”, featuring YG trainee female rapper CL. Hey, “Mr. DJ Turn it up!” because this song is the bomb - its resonating vibrations envelop your senses. I could dance till I drop to this album.

^ Take a close look at the picture above - that could be your next favorite artist. (Isn’t that an eerie picture?)
At first I thought that singer Kim Jang Hoon slipped on the wet stage due to the rain falling during the concert. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Kim Jang Hoon collapsed due to overwork and exhaustion. He got only 1 hour of sleep the night before because of his intense preparation for the upcoming “West Coast Festival” concert to help victims of the oil spill that happened last year.
Kim Jang Hoon was immediately taken to the emergency room. The concert continued with performances from other artists - Yoon Do Hyun, No Brain, DJ Doc, Super Junior, and Jang Nara.
Singer Kim Jang Hoon had a special concert to help out and encourage volunteers and workers cleaning out at oil spill in the west coast called “West Coast Festival” on 28th June. The concert started at 7.30 pm and at about 9.35pm when he was performing the song “Champion”, he fell down in the middle of the stage.
Staff had ran up the stage to help him up as he was unable to get up on his own. He was immediately sent to the neighbourhood hospital in an ambulance, and had only recovered consciousness in the ambulance on the way. He is right now resting in the hospital.
A phone interview done with Kim Jang Hoon’s representative on 29th June morning, it was said that Kim Jang Hoon had fell due to exhaustion from overwork - he had not more than 1 hour of sleep in the preparation of his concert.
Fortunately, he did not suffer from any major injury in this incident.

After the concert, the rest of the performers rushed to the hospital to visit Kim Jang Hoon, including members of Super Junior.
Whether this incident is due to Jang Hoon’s selfless ambition to help the needy or to a ridiculously busy schedule, this is yet another case of overwork and exploitation of a star. Korean pop stars are dropping like flies and no one seems to care that this hazardous situation needs to be rectified. Will it take some star’s life to end this madness? I hope not. But I sure don’t want to see anyone, especially my favorite artists, collapse on stage due to exhaustion. Get better, Kim Jang Hoon.

DJ Koo released his new MV “Let Me,” featuring Hana. This music video displays the new urban dance phenomenon, called Tecktonik, that has been raging throughout Europe and has just crossed over the Atlantic, sending off ripples. Trendsetters in Korea have also picked up Tecktonik as another style of street dancing, making it a new phenom following B-boying.

This is not the first time Tecktonik rode the air waves in Korea, captivating audiences with its quirky style of dance. Check out actor Jang Geun Suk and actress Go Ara move like elastic bands in the new CF for Etude Aqua Sherbet Ice Toner.

Tecktonik. When I first heard the word, I thought it was some ancient Aztec ritual dance for the rain gods. I didn’t realize it was another evolution out of pop culture. Some cringe at it, others are dazzled by its funkiness. So for some cross-cultural enrichment, here are some highlights about the new dance phenom that has crossed barriers, infecting the world in this era of globalization.

Tecktonik originated in 2000 at a popular nightclub called Metropolis, located on the southeastern outskirts of Paris. Since then it has taken France by storm, breaking down racial, social and economic barriers as youth took their voice in the form of dance to the streets. Techktonik blends hip hop and techno styles of dance, borrowing heavily from cyberfunk (Wikipedia). It also plays homage to the 1980s rave scene by utilizing glow sticks to enhance its impression. The flailing arms and quick, nimble foot work distinguish its choreography, expressing the energy of the youth. (Actually, these dancers remind me of wacky tube men that wave their arms in the air.)

However, Tecktonik is not limited to dance; it can also be generalized into a larger youth movement. Its fashion statement is bold, characterized by neon colors, arm bands, tight jeans and flashy belts. (Seriously, I saw one girl (Tecktonik dancer Lecktra) tooting an LCD belt with text streaming across its interface, like those news updates that scroll across your TV screen. So haute.) Technotik also describes a style of music, mixed by DJs at clubs to which dancers rave to.

This European dance craze spread through word of mouth and other unconventional mediums, such as Youtube and Daily Motion. One of the first Tecktonik videos posted on YouTube featured Jey-Jey. Other notable Tecktonik dancers include Cx7, Lecktra, Lili azian, Fredoo, and many more. Learn more about Techtonik on AFP, NPR, and Wikipedia.
