Mark Russell in his blog koreapopwars.blogspot.com has a very interesting post recently with the title “Black Rain’s Gonna fall”. His title says it all! Also I take advantage of the situation to post this picture of JYP I’ve been dying to share! Actually with the speech that this guy made my picture of him reasons it well!

Anyways, I would reallly encourage you to read his post, here is some of the highlights.
“……….So, Park Jin-young, the very talented singer/producer and founder/CEO of JYP Entertainment (and management company for the singer Rain), spoke at Harvard U., talking about the Korean Wave and how he would be much happier seeing less mindless nationalism in the media’s coverage of the success of Korea music outside of Korea.
First of all, as a pretty strong anti-nationalist, I liked Park’s basic position:
…[T]here was no Korea. Korea exists neither in my music nor in the hearts of the Americans who recognized me. They just liked my music and bought it. Is this the Korean Wave? Am I a patriot? I became confused. Is the duet by Korean singer Rain and American singer Omarion really Korean music? If Min succeeds in America, could we say the Korean Wave has now swept the U.S.? Or will I be derided as a singer who imitates American singers and a composer who imitates American music?
So far, so good. What does it mean to be Korean? What is imitating, and what is co-opting? Good questions. But then Park also said things like this:
I am, in fact, not a man who is making products that can be called Korean culture. Actually, I am making African-American music. I started liking it when I was seven and I have been engrossed in it all my life…….”
hahahaha JYP liking “African American” music since age 7!!!!!! and he is making African-American music? If my Asian American studies professor hears this she would get on fire!!! That hyphen thingy between African and America took her a good one lecture to clear her heart out!
But the guy is telling the truth people, cuz well we all sensed it, ever since he started making Rain imitate the accent!!!
“To MA FANS” where the poor guy was struggling with the basics(we are not talking about his recent English). So Rain the product of African music! Interesting title!! Let’s make a documentary on that! Hahahaha
But honestly what is African American music? Is it any different from American music? Do we call Usher and all those good stuff JYP is after following them African American or we call them simply American? Why is he bringing such a sensitive issue up?
And what’s going on with all these Korean Producers making speeches in Harvard? oh and no place else but just there! I remember not long ago that SM guy did the same thing and he dragged his whole singers with him from boA to super junior. Never found out what that was all about!!
The clip I watched he had this chart thingy, explaining the audience about their company goals and stuff! I didn’t know that attempt would end up here!
Wonder how much time it took JYP to prepare for such a lecture! ahahahaa
Did you guys know he has a BA in Geology? Nothing to do with African-Americans to me? Unless he studied the weather conditions where they reside! Which seems like it after making a speech like that shows the guy needs to take some American-studies intro classes or at least consult with some one in that field! Wonder what age 7 he was talking about! Sure it wasn’t at age 27?! Oh yeah?!
Oh Koreapopwars speaking of using too much exclamation check it out!
Unless I had a positive influence on you *giggling*
