Ok guys, here’s the latest roundup of the news of the past week (Monday 4th to Sunday 10th). Enjoy.

Super Junior-H with not so Happy news

Yesung of Super Junior Happy injured his back last Friday during the Music Bank Rehearsals. He tripped on a Power Cord and fell from the stage, he was sent immediately to the Hospital. The rest of the boys continued the performance like the troopers they are, check out the vid. My favourite of the lot is Ms. Patty (total lol soyboy!).

Get better soon and stay fit and healthy Yesung.

JYP ever the young’un

JYPs new album concept, ‘pimp’?

Park Jin Young the coolest Producer on the block doesn’t seem to notice that he can never be sexy. As much as I love this guys talent, I think he should stay away from these crazy photo shoots. JYP please be as great as you are in the recording booth but please put on some clothes and act your age? Just a tip. By the by to the random netizen that said, “He is as sexy as a gorilla. His stomach muscles are like chocolate.” Please be exposed to some more men, thank you, take a look at Kwon SangWoo for instance, and since when were gorillas sexy?

Big Bangs comeback

Well 08.08.08 has come and passed and Big Bang released their newest mini-album. There were some rave reviews by some and not-so-happy reviews by others. No matter what, Big Bang showed us that they are as popular as ever as their album sold an impressive amount in just pre-orders (100k). The album as covered by the staff earlier this week has a wide range of genres and as some people here in the international section are not so keen on it, Big Bang dominates the Cyworld chart as the Top 10 includes every track of the album, even the intro “Stand Up”.

Korean Films rock the movie theatres

One of the main reasons for plenty of people to get in to the Hallyu Wave has got to be their movies. I for one am a huge KMovie fan and finally, the movies are nabbing a nearly 50% market share of the Korean Movie Market, 47.7% if you’re going to nitpick. Awesome movies are out this summer and one of the best picks has to be the Korean western “The Good, the Bad, the Weird”, starring three of the most talented actors Jung WooSung, Lee ByungHun and the ever awesome Song KangHo. Keep watching those Kmovies people.

Kang HyeJung hits the US

Well, kind of. Young actress Kang HyeJung has been cast in ‘American’ movie ‘Wedding Palace’ about two people who meet in L.A and get married. It focuses on their different cultural backgrounds and will be shot mostly in the US with some scenes in Korea. Its produced by Korean American company TU Productions.

Monday Kiz goes solo

After the devastating death of Kim MinSoo of the talented duo Monday Kiz earlier this year, news has reached us that the other half Lee JinSeong will continue. Monday Kiz’s record label gave up finding another partner and wants Mr. Lee to try his luck as a solo singer. We wish him the best of luck in his efforts.

Hana Yori Dango still dangling in the air

It was announced earlier this year that Mr. Hyunjoong of SS501 was going to star as Hanazawa Rui in the Korean adaptation of Hana Yori Dango, and then not too long after that they claimed it was not confirmed. Group 8 who is producing this version seem to be meticulous in their casting project as it has been extended yet again. I know that it’s going to air next year but it’s getting ridiculous as they refuse to tell us who is going to star in the drama. Apparently 80% of the idol stars have auditioned for the drama but no one has particularly stood out yet. They are still deciding on who is going to make them rake in the most money without looking like they sold out.

Maybee wants you to be as inventive as ever

Pretty and talented Songwriter/Singer/DJ Maybee has allowed her fans to produce both her recent single and Music Video. The single was written and produced by 20 high school girls who are avid supporters of Maybee. It was released on the 4th last week as a digital single. Maybee is great to encourage and reward her fans for their own creativity. And its pretty nice that the song is dedicated to her. It’s called “Maybee Praise Song” if you were wondering.

Nell makes their way in to Japan

After a successful comeback earlier this year with their album “Separation Anxiety”, Nell find themselves being invited to the Japanese SummerSonic Rock Festival. Foot traffic reaches highs of 80.000 (concert-goers) and it’s good to think that they will be able to be exposed to the almost-eerie yet ear pleasing music of Seo Taiji discovered Nell. All those hours “researching” in that insane asylum paid off, right guys?

It’s time for this weeks Music chart, credit goes to Mr. Edward1849 as ever, from Soompi.

Weekly Music Chart – 2nd Week – August
1. Lee Hyori – U-Go-Girl
2. Davichi – 사랑과 전쟁 (Love and War)
3. Uhm Jung Hwa (feat. T.O.P) – D.I.S.C.O
5. Wonder Girls – So Hot
6. Brown Eyes – 가지마 가지마 (Don’t Leave Don’t Leave)
Her father, a martial artist himself, is afraid of losing an heiress to the family’s martial artistry, and missions So-hwi’s old buddy Il-young to persuade her to stay in the field. Meanwhile, the evil Heuk-bong provokes a war to conquer the martial arts world with the legendary Fine Blade he stole in the past, killing every swordsman one after another. Starring in the film are Kim Soo-ro (Vampire Cop Ricky), Kang Sung-jin (Kidnapping Granny K), and TV actor Kim Jin-soo as the men, and Park Yeh-jin (Memento Mori) as the woman who turns their heads.

Heya guys, sorry for butting in again. How’s the complicated love-hate connection goin’? (You know, the “We hate Sushi, Sushi lovers hate us, and Sushi loves or hates whoever only God knows” thing.) SYP haters, go take a break now, you won’t be interested to comment on this one. except for the grammar, perhaps. ah, just do as you wish then.

Anyway, I was relaxing in my sofa and having my bowl of popcorn here watching the haters launched the emotional rockets at us, when i remembered about these following two things to share. Bother to join me? get your own popcorn, i don’t share mine.

Remember Poppin Hyeon Jeon’s Chinese movie, Kung Fu Pop or Kung Fu Hip Hop or Jing Wu Meng in Chinese ? well, we’ve got the previews now, so you can decide whether you want to add it on your summer movie list or not before it hit the cinema on 27th of June.

3 minutes preview :

1 minute preview :

We have…Antique, the full hotness movie (scroll below this home page for more info), and guess what, we have a row full of Asian movies to watch at the New York Asian Film Festival 2008! not so exciting for those of you who live NOT in New York, eh? or should i say, US, since i’m living on the other side of the globe.

ACCURACY OF DEATH (Japan, 2008) – sometimes a movie sounds like a bad idea: the Grim Reaper comes to Earth with a talking dog to evaluate the lives of potential dead people. But with Takeshi Kaneshiro playing the Grim Reaper, and set in 1988, 2008, and the near future, this flick turns out to be a light-footed romantic comedy that winds up turbo-charging your sense of optimism. Kaneshiro, a veteran of Wong Kar-wai, Zhang Yimou and John Woo films dominates this flick, and shows exactly what it is that a movie star does to earn those bags of cash. In his hands, every second of this film feels like pure gold.

ADRIFT IN TOKYO (Japan, 2007) – This is a movie about two men walking down the street. Seriously. That’s it. But bear with, because isn’t CITIZEN KANE just about a guy who owns a sled? A scruffy law school student (Joe Odagiri, the Johnny Depp of Japan) is deep in hock to a thuggish, middle-aged debt collector who offers to forgive what he owes if the kid accompanies him on long walks through Tokyo. What sounds contrived takes about 10 minutes to settle into a loopy, at times hilarious, rhythm as the two stroll through the city trying to figure out how watch repair shops stay in business these days and pondering the plight of the pygmy hippopotamus. After seeing this flick you’ll learn the soul-soothing pleasures of walking, and you’ll never
take the bus again. (Co-presented with JAPAN CUTS: Festival of New Japanese Film).

ALWAYS 2: SUNSET ON THIRD STREET (Japan, 2007) – one of Japan’s biggest hits, ALWAYS: SUNSET ON THIRD STREET rocked the New York Asian Film Festival back in 2006 and now the sequel is back to deliver even more mid-century melodrama about a neighborhood in Tokyo where everyone is struggling to make ends meet and get ahead in post-war Japan. It was a mega-hit in Japan and this time…Godzilla attacks. Seriously. And in case you missed it, we’re bringing back the first ALWAYS (winner of 12 Japanese Academy Awards). (Co-presented with JAPAN CUTS: Festival of New Japanese Film)

ASSEMBLY (China, 2007) – China’s second-biggest box office hit of 2007 sets new standards for the dirt-in-your-teeth war film. Taking place during China’s Civil War of 1948, it’s an epic that boils down to one question: how do veterans deal with the choices they made on the battlefield once the war is over and they’ve come home? Director Feng Xiaogang is China’s biggest hit-maker, and his swordplay epic, THE BANQUET, opened last year’s New York Asian Film Festival.

THE BUTCHER (Korea, 2007) – the Korean film industry spent last year falling apart with big, glossy productions bombing at the box office, one after the other. This grotty mash-up of HOSTEL and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE was made completely off the map, shot on video far outside the studio system, by first-time feature director Kim Jin-Won, and in it he depicts the Korean film industry as a bunch of pigs and rapists shooting snuff films for foreign audiences. The comparison to Korea’s OLDBOY-inspired cinema of violence is hard to miss.

DAINIPPONJIN (Japan, 2007) – never has a comedy been this patient in setting up its audience. A mockumentary that starts out as the most boring movie ever made about the most boring man on earth suddenly switches gears when we discover that the government job he’s complaining about is one that requires him to grow to enormous size and defend Japan from horrible giant monsters. While wearing purple underwear. Written, directed and starring Hitoshi Matsumoto, Japan’s number one comedian, this is the movie CLOVERFIELD should have been, combining the lunacy of WWE smackdown with the insanity of THIS IS SPINAL TAP. Ever wanted to know what happens when giant monsters are in heat? See it here! (Co-presented with JAPAN CUTS: Festival of New Japanese Film).

DOG IN A SIDECAR (Japan, 2007) – it’s easy to slam a coming of age movie because there’re just too many of them and they usually follow the exact same set of dramatic beats. But DOG IN A SIDECAR sidesteps that problem and breathes new life into what has become a tired genre. It also marks the comeback film for actress Yuko Takeuchi (THE RING) who won six “Best Actress” awards for this film, playing the lazy, uncouth girlfriend of a single parent. Gentle and unambitious, this is a golden example of the small, well-made film that proves good things come in small packages.

FINE, TOTALLY FINE (Japan, 2007) – a spiritual successor to previous NYAFF hit, THE TASTE OF TEA, this flick is almost impossible to describe. On the surface it charts a lazy love triangle between three losers who are hitting 30 and haven’t gone anywhere in life. But that leaves out the ghost, the quest to create the world’s best haunted house, how not to open a box of Kleenex, the worst way to sell a porno magazine, the joys of used bookstores and the world’s biggest, child-killing chewing gum bubble. (Co-presented with JAPAN CUTS: Festival of New Japanese Film)

HAPPINESS (Korea, 2007) – Hur Jin-Ho has made his career out of looking at worn-out melodramas from new angles, resulting in some of cinema’s most sob-worthy and exquisitely crafted romances like CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST and APRIL SNOW. Here he manages to make a love story between two sick people (he’s got cirrhosis of the liver, she’s got lung disease) feel like something fresh and tender by playing up the moments that get lost and playing down the big dramatic beats. It’s an honest tear-jerker, where you feel like you don’t have to sell yourself short in order to have a good cry.

KALA (Indonesia, 2007) – Joko Anwar blew away festival audiences with his hilarious JONJI’S PROMISE, but his follow-up film is not what anyone expected. A dark, alternate history film noir set in a version of Indonesia where everyone dresses like it’s still the 1950’s and where sudden, hideous violence waits around every corner in a black sedan, this conspiracy thriller slowly tightens its hand around your throat until darkness creeps in on the edge of your vision. A narcoleptic reporter and a gay cop are drawn into a murderous plot to find what’s known as The First President’s Treasure, while the city around them descends into lawlessness. A massive blockbuster in Indonesia, it’s an unsettling, stylish walk into the dark at the end of the street.

KING NARESUAN 1 & 2 (Thailand, 2007) – the number one and number two box office hits of all time from Thailand, these massive epics tell the life story of Thailand’s warrior king, Naresuan. Full of sets dripping with gold, political intrigue that makes American politics look straight-forward and some of the biggest, most rousing action scenes you’ll ever have the pleasure of sucking through your eyes. Imagine THE KING & I with the musical numbers replaced by herds of stampeding war elephants, six-foot-long rifles and bloodthirsty Amazons.

L: CHANGE THE WORLD (Japan, 2008) – the DEATH NOTE movies were massive hits in Japan (and at last year’s NYAFF) and now the latest installment in the series hits screens, courtesy of Hideo Nakata, director of the landmark horror film THE RING. This time out it’s L, the teen, goth version of Sherlock Holmes who takes center stage. Slotted into the last 23 days of his life, this flick is a big budget summer blockbuster that sees this hunchbacked, candy-munching genius take on a terrorist cult armed with a flesh-melting virus.

M (Korea, 2007) – Lee Myung-Se has the best set of eyes in all of Korea, resulting in the visual extravagances of his action movie, NOWHERE TO HIDE, and his swordplay flick, DUELIST. Now he’s turned those magic orbs on the ghost movie and created the divisive, infuriating, totally unique M, that’s the closest you’ll ever come to dreaming with your eyes open. A popular junk novelist has just blown his latest deadline but hasn’t written a word of his new book because his high school sweetheart has suddenly shown up in town from out of the past. She may be real, or she may be a ghost, or she may be a memory, or there may be no difference between the three. Audiences practically tore the screen down when this deeply personal movie premiered, but when cinema owners tried to yank it out of theaters early, fans took to the streets in protest.

MAD DETECTIVE (Hong Kong, 2007) – Johnnie To reunites with actor Lau Ching-wan after seven years to make this crime flick that’s like a high performance engine firing on all cylinders. Lau plays a cop who can see people’s souls, fired from the force after sawing off his own ear and giving it to his commanding officer as a gift. Now he’s pulled back in to solve a crime committed by another police officer and what unfolds is one of the blackest, darkest, most despairing films you’ll ever see.

MISE-EN-SCENE SHORT FILM FESTIVAL – Korea’s number one festival of short films comes back for a return engagement and this time we picked the shorts ourselves. There’s the gruesome tale of a fluffy puppy out for revenge against the owners who abandoned it, a plot by zombies to control the Korean film industry, a gang of chickens who eat the moon, a company where contracts are settled by martial arts and a very strange story about the secret love child of famous British author John Fowles.

THE REBEL (Vietnam, 2007) – an old time Republic serial, pumped up on politics and super-charged with ONG BAK caliber action scenes, THE REBEL is the biggest box office hit ever to come out of Vietnam. Set in the 1920’s, it’s all about a secret agent for the colonial French government who is tasked with rounding up anti-French rebels and kicking them in the head until they die. Then, one day, he finds that he can’t put down his own people anymore and he goes on the run. Wall-to-wall beat-downs, insane Vietnamese martial arts, and thrill-a-minute chases make this an adrenaline-charged, bloodied knuckled ode to Vietnamese freedom.

SAD VACATION (Japan, 2007) – Shinji Aoyama (EUREKA, ELI ELI LEMA SABACHTANI)
is one of Japan’s best kept secrets. This is part three of his unofficial “Kita Kyushu” trilogy which started with his first film, HELPLESS, continued with EUREKA and concludes with SAD VACATION (named after the Johnny Thunders song). No familiarity with the previous films is necessary. Instead, all you need to know is that Tadanobu Asano plays a guy who was abandoned early on by his mother and, after taking in a Chinese orphan left over from a human trafficking job gone wrong, he suddenly comes across her again as an adult. He’s determined that vengeance will be his, but he finds out that blood is so much thicker than water it’ll drown us all. (Co-presented with JAPAN CUTS: Festival of New Japanese Film).

SPARROW (Hong Kong, 2008) – on the other end of the spectrum, Johnnie To must have fallen in love before he made SPARROW. This charming flick took three years to make and it’s a sparkling, life-affirming film about a gang of pickpockets who cross paths with a mysterious femme fatale. An ode to rapidly-vanishing old Hong Kong, it feels like it’s going to burst into song at any minute and contains some of To’s most gorgeous, intricate and technically breathtaking set pieces. Watching this movie feels like soaking your soul in a big glass of cool, bubbly champagne for 87 minutes.

SUKIYAKI WESTERN DJANGO (Japan, 2007) – set to be released theatrically later this summer by First Look, Takashi Miike’s English-language spaghetti western combines Shakespeare, YOJIMBO, Sergio Corbucci films and plants that grow tiny fetuses into an unholy car bomb of a movie that explodes in your face, showering the audience with a nutso reimagining of American Westerns. Everything you’ve ever wanted in a Takashi Miike movie, including Quentin Tarantino hamming his way through a cameo that rivals his appearance on “The Golden Girls” and more, more, more! It’s bigger! Louder! Faster! Better! (Co-presented with JAPAN CUTS: Festival of New Japanese Film).

THIS WORLD OF OURS (Japan, 2007) – one of the most astonishing debuts in recent years, 25-year-old director Ryo Nakajima was a hikikomori (a shut-in) who emerged from his room to make this digital howl of rage. Screening at the Vancouver Film Festival, Rotterdam Film Festival and winning three prizes at Japan’s Pia Film Festival it charts a continuum of anger that has the 9/11 bombings at one end and high school bullying at the other with gang rape, self-mutilation and school massacres in between. Think A CLOCKWORK ORANGE mixed with Shunji Iwai’s ALL ABOUT LILY CHOU CHOU and scored to Beethoven.

UNITED RED ARMY (Japan, 2007) – Koji Wakamatsu, Japan’s most controversial filmmaker, wraps up 45 years of moviemaking with this 3-hour, insanely researched epic about Japan’s United Red Army faction, one of the world’s most notorious terrorist groups. Director Wakamatsu is barred from entering the United States due to his political affiliations, but we will be conducting a live, satellite Q&A with him after the screening on July 5, and the screenwriter, Masayuki Kakegawa, will be attending the festival and is available for interviews. Koji Wakamatsu is available for email and phone interviews. (Co-presented with JAPAN CUTS: Festival of New Japanese Film).

YASUKUNI (China/Japan, 2008) – this documentary about Japan’s Yasukuni shrine to its war dead has become a cultural flashpoint in Japan, with several cinema chains refusing to screen it and elected officials calling for a boycott of the film, while right wingers are threatening to fire bomb screenings. A sprawling documentary about the protestors, right wing nationalists, thugs, patriots and misguided Americans who use the Yasukuni shrine as their stage, this documentary pits war against peace and national pride against xenophobic jingoism. The result will make all audiences deeply uncomfortable. (Co-presented with JAPAN CUTS: Festival of New Japanese Film).

The festival’s opening film Then Summer Came, which will be a world premiere, will screen with an intro by the director Ryo Iwamatsu, before the film as well as a Q & A sessions afterwards.

During the Korean shorts program on Saturday June 28th, director Park Jae-Young of the short film A Puppy, Our Family will be on hand for an introduction.

Quite possibly the coolest guest of the bunch will arrive for your viewing pleasure courtesy of a live satelitte. Cult director Koji Wakamatsu will perform a satelitte broadcasted Q & A after the screening of his latest film United Red Army which will screen July 6th to critical acclaim. The film’s screenwriter, Masayuki Kakegawa, will appear in person to also anwser any questions the audience may have.

The Korean documentary Action Boys, which makes its international premiere, will also screen with as yet to be announced special guests in attendance.

Cast : Jeong Jae-Young, Son Byung-Ho, Lee Young-Eun

Director : Ra Hee-Chan

My rating : Laugh Out Loud

If you’re currently in need of good laugh, or looking for some smart comedy to fill your boring weekend, or if you are just a 23 year old worn-out worker with no boyfriend, no parties on weekend, no energy left to move your ass downtown on saturday night (to make it simple : no life), you might wanna watch this movie – Going By The Book. This sure will crack you up.

It’s about a traffic police Jung Do Man (Jeong Jae Young) who was chosen to act as the robber in a bank-robbery drill. Being a dedicated officer (or perhaps a talented actor) as he was, he pulled his best as a robber, and put the police force’s dignity at stake. The supposed to be ‘fun’ drill, turned out to be a whole-day drama with 8 dead victims (meaning 8 people with ‘dead’ tags on their chests)…and one raped (yeah, just the tag too).

click pictures for original size

You can feel Jang Jin’s signature in the whole movie as he was one of the scriptwriters. The witty dialogue, weird situations that led to your bursting laughters, and even Jeong Jae Young.

( Just like Pavlov’s conditional reflexes, i’ve learned to associate Jeong Jae Young to Jang Jin, as you can find him in most of Jang Jin’s works. Check Someone Special, The Big Scene, Guns and Talks, or even the migrating birds in My Son, where Jeong Jae Young dubbed the clueless father-bird) . (And yes, i’m a big fan of Jang Jin, and Jeong Jae Young. Maybe one day you can see me next to the red carpet of a movie premiere, screaming like DBSK fangirls, “Jang Jin Oppa!! I wanna have your baby!!”…just that i might be the only one who scream cos, well…unlike DBSK, Jang Jin is not “The Most Handsome Man in Asia”, and he doesn’t dance nor sing nor whatever boybands do, so perhaps not so many girls would be willing to join me fangirling a movie director…)

Anyway.

Jung Do Man was not the only character worth-notice in this movie. The negotiator with his terrible voice problem somehow had liven up the scene, especially when he paired up with Jung Do Man’s mum, who instead of asking her son to surrender~as the negotiator wished, she asked for Do Man’s seal-stamp cos she needed it to lease her house.

Do Man’s co-officers also drew laughters since the beginning. Check what this officer had to say when the chief ( the one with glasses) asked about his plan to solve the string of bank robberies happened in their city.

and a little romance won’t hurt nobody.

well maybe except for this two.

By the end of the movie (a very dramatic ending for just a training, by the way), you’d realize that you just laughed at the irony of how the cops couldn’t even take down a solo robber in their own drill.

So see, who needs a nagging boyfriend on a saturday night when you have good movies to watch?

Enjoy,

Louise (A freakin 23 year old worn-out employee, a single who chooses to be a couch potato at the end of an exhausting week)

p.s : for those who are recently busy looking for the flaws in SYP posts, yes, i do know it’s not a new movie. it’s from 2007. That’s what the number on the title for. 2007. that’s for the release year. not for the number of the cells you have in your tiny brains.

Anyone likes Poppin’ Hyeon Joon? i love him and i love him more when he moves. yeah, the looks-hottest-when-he-moves-guy who just recently made an appearance on Mnet M! Countdown with Jewelry for the remix of Baby One More Time (the lyrics written by Minwoo, sounds hot on the first 5th times you hear it but after that, you just wanna kill yourself every time you hear the repetitive “Baby One more time..baby one more time…baby one more time..”), is gonna have a new movie Kung Fu Pop (got nothing to do with Shen Yue Pop), directed by Huayang Fu, together with other casts Fan Bing Bing and Jordan Chan.

Now when you are just about to get bored to death with all the Kung Fu Something movies (to name some, the classic Kung Fu Master, Jay Chou’s Kung Fu Dunk, the upcoming Kung Fu Panda, and don’t forget Kung Fu Hustle. oh and i know another movie starts with Kung Fu, but it’s not ethical to mention here since it’s an x-rated movie.)…ANYWAY..what was i talking about? oh right, NOW when you might get bored with all movies start with Kung Fu title, you surely can survive just another one, can’t you?.

This movie is about streetdance.

Are you expecting me to say more? well, it’s a movie about street dance and Fan Bing Bing -the girl that looks like a computerized image up there- is gonna play as a DJ. Boys, don’t you just love hot female DJs?
Just happen to cross my mind, isn’t South Korea famous for its BBoy? why does Popin Hyeon Joon have to fly all the way to another country to make a movie about streetdance?
Mi-kyung drives a van for a private tutor institute. Yi-man works part time at a local supermarket. Bong-sun lives with her sick children, and Eun-ji is being chased down because of her father’s debt. Nothing can get any worse for these women and they only dream to live a simple life in the future, but one day, they get themselves into a big mess when Hyae-ran runs off with their money. Mi-kyung gathers up others to catch her and get their money back, and this is how the “Bongchon 3-dong Girl Scout” was organized. As they fall deep into a cruel underground world, the situation turns for the worse.

Actress Kim Tae Hee, elder sister of Lee Wan (‘Tree of Heaven’, ‘Stairway to Heaven’), has made another hit. You may recognize the name from the actress of the hit dramas such as ‘Love Story in Harvard’, ‘Forbidden Love’, and Stairway to Heaven’ and movies such as ‘The Restless’ (with Jung Woo Sung from ‘Daisy’ and ‘Sad Movie’). Well anyway, Tae Hee has had many reviews on her great performance of action skills from her latest movie ‘Fight’. So good in fact, that people dare to compare her to Angelina Jolie! Only question in my mind is, does she top Yoon So Yi (‘Arahan’, ‘Shadowless Sword’) who was very much wanted for the American action movie ‘Blood the Last Vampire’ (instead going to lovely Jun Ji Hyun)?

_______________________________________
The plot of ‘Fight’ : “It’s a story of a couple who once loved each other greatly but ended up in a fierce fight. “Fight” is reminiscent of the Hollywood movie “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” starring Jolie.
A person from the movie’s production firm said “Fight” has many action scenes and is modeled after “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Playing opposite Seol Kyung- koo, Kim portrays a woman who takes revenge on a man she once loved but whom she now hates.”

Other current news, ‘Milyang’ A.K.A. ‘Secret Sunshine’ broke records at the French box Office. It hit the 7th spot out of 17 current/new movies. This movie won reviews from every one in Korea and now France. Jun Do Yun also took the award of Best Actress Award to boot.
Why is it such a success you ask? Well that’s because the film was only shown in 58 theaters through out France! Still don’t get it? Well think about it, 58 theaters in that fairly big and rich country and it hit the top ten in movie statistics? It went up against (and beat) ‘Rush Hour 3’, showing in 452 theaters, ‘Michael Clatyton’, shown in 291 theaters, and ‘Invasion’, showing in 226 theaters.

The news about Jun Ji Hyun returning to Korea after her American Debut (‘Blood: The Last Vampire’) are true! In the future, Jun Ji “Sexy” Hyun will star in a movie with co-star Hwang Jung Min (‘Happiness’, ‘Over the Hedge’ voice with BoA) in ‘A Man Once Superman’
She will return with a new dramatic movie! Yay!
_______________________________________
“According to CJ Entertainment on the 27th, Jun Ji Hyun will play Song Soo Jung, a producer of a small production company of realistic and unsympathetic character that tries to use Superman (Hwang Jung Min) to film a human documentary.
Jun Ji Hyun says, “I found the scenario to be very unique and I am looking forward to working with Hwang Jung Min.”
Junn Ji Hyun has been filming “Blood the Last Vampire” based on the original Japanese animation.
“The man who used to be Superman” is a delightful human drama about a man who believes hi is Superman and proactively helps neighbors. The movie is to be directed by Jung Yoon Cheol of “Marathon” and will start filming this fall to be released early next year.”
_______________________________________
And the movie star mistake goes to… Daniel Dae Kim who stars as Jin Soo Kwon in the American hit show, ‘LOST’. He pulled a “Lindsay Lohan” and was driving while under the influence!
He was arrested at around 3 am and was booked at the Honolulu Police Station (I wonder if it’s still like paradise while in prison in Hawaii….) and was bailed at 5:05 am.

Ouch!

The upcoming film “Antique” Director Min Gyu Dong will star Joo Ji Hoon of “Goong (Princess Hours),” Kim Jae Wook of “Coffee Prince” and others.
According to the production company on the 17th, Joo Ji Hoon will play the “Antique” owner Jin Hyuk who becomes the perfect salesmen with his speech skills, while Kim Jae Wook will play the genius patissier Son Woo to mark his silver screen debut.

Also, Yoo Ah In will play the boxer turned patissier assistant Gi Beom, and Choi Ji Ho who debuted through “Time Between Dog and Wolf” will play the role of Jin Hyuk’s bodycard Soo Young.

“Antique” is the story of love and friendship of four men set in an antique shop that is renovated into a cake shop and is scheduled to be released on screen during the first half of next year.

now, i don’t know why they didn’t add more info about the movie, but reading about the roles and the story, i’m pretty much sure it’s an adaptation of Japanese drama under the same title. I’ve watched it, one of my favorite J-doramas, and a very cool one.

I don’t know how they’ll squeeze 11 episodes to a standard length movie, and if you’re an avid audience of both K and J drama/movie like i am, you prolly aware of the differences between both, like Koreans are usually more in the pop mainstream than Japanese movie/drama. I just hope they won’t make Antique into a pop movie, coz the original, well, like many good J-dramas, is not really a pop drama.

am i making you confused? coz i think i’m making myself confused.

okay, let’s put it this way. Japanese drama are usually better in qualities than Korean. So i hope they will keep Antique in the same league as the original.

yeah. that’s better.

well anyways. In the original, the 4 leading roles were played by, well, 4 hunks; Hideaki Takizawa, Naohito Fujiki, Shiina Kippei, and Hiroshi Abe. For you who are not familiar with those names , just trust me, poor people, they are drool factors.
