Rating : Parade of the pin-up boys. nothing less. nothing more.
Director : Lee Kwon
It seemed like a good idea not to review this movie, since we tend to play safe (not that it always works) and avoid Attack Of The ShenYuePop Staff By Super Junior Fans. But here we are, just to share some thoughts and opinions.
Like what i’ve said to some of our readers, me and Shen watched this movie a while ago, and got an idea why the movie dropped the market. Shen thinks it’s too corny. I think it’s nothing more than goodlooks in moving pictures.
So if we make a scenario, it probably goes like this :
An ELF went to the theatre on the launching day of the movie, eager to see her fantasy idols on the big screen. She couldn’t sleep the night before, coz damn, she was way too excited (we all know this feeling, don’t we?excited at the night before F4’s concert, for example). She’d bragged to her ELF friends that she had ticket for the first day, and she promised to tell all about it to her poor friends who couldn’t make it that week to watch the movie. ~fastforward to after the movie~ The girl was online, chatting on the net with her co-elves, and enthustiasticly telling them about the movie. ”OMG!OMG!OMG!Siwon was sooo cooolll as always!no, no, even cooler than eveerrr!!and Kangin was such a plump hottie in his judo uniform!!and Hee chulll!!OMG!!OMG!!and Dong Hae! my heart stopped beating as he danced and i wanna marry him!!”, at this point her co-elves interrupted “we’re not sure if Dong Hae’s willing to marry a ghost”, but the girl didn’t budge and continued, “And Sungmin!!!I was running out of breath as he smiled!!I wished i could pause the movie!!and HanKyung!!!Oh dear, what a sexy 15 seconds of his appeareance!!!AAAHHH!!!I would die just to see more of him!!!”, and lastly, the girl who at the moment had probably become a zombie due to heart and respiration failure added, “So if you wanna watch the movie, just wait till it up on crunchyrolls.”

Did i waste your time with my fiction? all i’m trying to say is, maybe people realized that watching this movie in the theatre is such a waste of money. Coz all you wanna do is to pause, rewind, and take snapshots to save them as wallpapers. Of course, you can buy the DVD from YesAsia like our friend Jennifer did, but even the deadliest Elves are only human, and most human are economical creatures : if you can get it for free, why swipe the credit card?
The story itself is, may I say, nasty. Why on earth would people make a movie about poop being thrown away to people’s face? Maybe it was supposed to be hilarious, but dear, if you watch the movie while having your lunch like I did, sulking is the most polite thing you can do. All the leading roles here had a complex to be famous and recognized, even the low-profile Kibum. And the crown of fame was in a yellow plastic bag, in form of shit. The movie brought teenage complex of being underdog and afraid of being outcast (which is the main theme of almost all Lindsay Lohan’s earlier movies and other hollywood teenflicks), even the most popular boys need more fame.

The question is, can you really relate to the story, while when you watch the movie, you have the full awareness that all the casts are your real life idols, play as, nothing else but, idols. In fact, i’m pretty sure most of those who watch the movie, watch it just for the sake of Super Junior’s, regardless the story and all.
I agree that most of the roles resemblance their real personalities ( real as in reality shows, that is), and it’s a good disguise to the boys’ lack of acting skills. What’s easier than act as your own self?
And what’s the deal with Lee Teuk covered up as Judo Panda? (speaking of which, it’s the Panda’s poop scaterred on people’s face. Lee Teuk’s dung, anyone?) Good and diplomatic reason could be he was still in recovery, so it could be anyone behind the costume, and all Lee Teuk needed to do was to show up in the last 5 seconds before the ending credit title. But I can think of better reason. Lee Teuk can’t act at all. Now raise your hand if any of you have ever seen Lee Teuk NOT smiling. That’s the only expression he’s got. Smiling face. Good for a social person, but not an actor. Come to think it again, why would ruin a fun teenflick with such absurd logic like Judo-ka Panda?

Ironically, the only cast that really caught my attention, was the one that I didn’t even know who he was, whether he was a Super Junior member or not, coz he wasn’t even pretty. It was the gay-ish vice chief of the student board, or Si Won’s slave. I can hear some people sound their same opinion. This dude (yesterday I-and I’m almost positive, Shen also, since Shen is more clueless about Suju than me- found out his name was RyeoWook, thanx to MutaKu and CJlatina)definitely did a pretty good job, to steal the attention without even looking good. Maybe it’s a lil bit exaggerating, but I think he saved the movie.

Of course it was a fun movie, with humour bits here and there, and we can definitely see that the movie is produced to spoil the girl fans, since no romance at all (High school boys without girlfriends?what kinda life would that be?). But it doesn’t worth your money. (i can hear producers shout at me saying “YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO FEEL THE FUN IF YOU DON’T PAY!!!but what can i do?i’m only human…)

Sungmin and his hair reminds me of Sailormoon Live Action (does SM have particular fondness of Sailormoon, since many of his artists resemblance The Pretty Soldiers? o.O)

Can anyone tell me who he is?

ShenYue: as I mentioned before … I am not in the position to have a firm opinion on the guys or even this movie .. that is due to lack of available spare time to watch all their reality shows and get familiar with each and every single one of these guys with all these products they have produced … or….. maybe it is the motivation issue that I am dealing with … the age group of the guys? whatever the reason except for couple of the guys that has invaded the industry and I am sure thanks to Uncle SM’s concerns whoever happened to watch any South Korean TV shows have been expose to this certain number even if you have never planned to, but for the most part these guys are as foreign to me as I am to them LOL! But saying all that … here is my humble opinion ….
I think as Louise mentioned thoroughly the makers of the movie really tried to play it “safe” by portraying the already-created concept of Super Junior guys in public (which even I am aware of) with some unrealistic un-thoughtful scenario (and I DARE CALLING IT THAT!) focused on some high school guys’ desire for fame and fortune gained by the most pathetic way possible, that is by being shoot by some SHIT! I donno what should we say to whoever came up with that idea .. but second thought “shit shooting” context? It was really absurd! unless that is what is going on as a common knowledge in Korean society that we as foreigners are unfamiliar with .. then again if they were hoping for some world class recognition (which I doubt since Koreans entertainment has proved us by now for not caring for overseas fans) that is on their LOSS! *sticking tongue out*
Then having the boys playing with “their real names” on the movie … which made it confusing in lines with the story as these guys supposedly have it all that they are killing for on the movie in real life as for the “fame” part that is … this alone unbalanced the whole project from the very first couple scenes …. Now even if the movie was made solely for the purpose of couple more million wons to Mr. SM’s piggy bank, I would have expected some real thoughtful, well managed project that Korean movie industry is known for … comparing that piece with the even class B or even C movies in Korean industry, SM picture didn’t even passed the grade in my book … the thing is I know they tried to do it on their own .. and they did much better job than couple other short movies I watched from SM entertainment before .. but I believe SM had that much to shell out to get some professional counseling on their supposedly “first” project before investing … So I dare calling them at fault and in my opinion overall scenario was the main flaw of the whole project …
and If you know me .. by now you know that I tend to not mention much of the good points in comparison to the negative criticism I am known for (which is not something to be proud of by the way) .. that’s cuz we search enough in the hardcore fans forums and places 24/7 to be exposed ENOUGH to the positive sides of it … just imagine reading about constant praising and such that makes you sick to your heart by the end of the day … However, as for the good positive points I’d say this much that in terms of acting skills these guys by far own the screen WAY better than DBSK on the screen! and I’m confident when I say that
…. some of you asked us to talk about their looks in the movie .. but seriously there is no need for me at this age to do any fan-service here … since the truth is (and I don’t see any reason to not mention this) I don’t find any of these guys a possible short/long-term mate material so in my case except for Siwon-RECENTLY LOLOL! I have no desire to even discuss the matter on their look department .. I know more than 50% of our readers are in the same group with the guys .. so good for you .. with me out of the picture (this is if you think (and I know some ACTUALLY DO) that I have any more chance of sedation of these guys than you guys have which I have a hard time understanding it) there is less competition for you! Just remember to invite us to your wedding *wink*
