To our patient readers who have only shown us kindness… Sorry for the lack of updates, we will be more dedicated in future to giving more updates to the blog. Our forums is where we’ve mainly been updating, nevertheless we will be giving more attention to the blog from now on. So in that respect I will be rounding up some news in one post to get us a little up to date.
Choi JinShils Suicide
Another sad and depressing piece of news has rocked the entertainment industry. Choi JinShil the talented actress and mother of two was found dead on the morning of the 2nd of October. Ms. Choi had committed suicide in the bathroom and was discovered by her mother. Apparently, one of the causes of her suicide was lending money to the late Ahn JaeHwan, who also committed suicide last month. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family and two children, rest in peace Choi JinShil. I came to adore Choi JinShil for her role in 장밋빛 인생 (also known as My Rosy Life), and kept an eye out for her appearances in other dramas, she is truly a great loss to the acting community.
Cast for Hana Yori Dango FINALLY revealed!
Just as the last ounce of interest was about to leave, they announce the F4 lead characters, yet no news on the lead girl. Anyhow, earlier this week Group 8 kindly let us know who will be starring in their ever-so-special Korean version of the Japanese mange “Hana Yori Dango” (Boys over Flowers). F4s Domyouji Tsukasa will be Lee MinHo, Hanazawa Rui is Kim HyunJoong (shock horror), Nishikada Sojiroh is Kim Bum and Mimisaka Akira is Kim Joon. After all this time, you would think that they would blow us away with a high profile cast, nevertheless I am remotely interested after seeing the list. The acting I imagine will be somewhat decent considering two of the boys are actors, whatever happened to all those idols auditioning? What next? The female lead please.
BoA needs her lunch
Whether this entire song is a play on little Miss.Kwon BoAs name we don’t know, but BoAs debut song for the US has been leaked? Released? With SM and Kpop artists/entertainment companies I really don’t know anymore. Check out BoAs American debut single “Eat You Up” though on Toudou…
Damn is the chorus catchy
SeeYa are back as…?
That big bow and hair and wigs and clothes and….O_O
Balladeers go disco. SeeYa come back in to the limelight with a new single titled “Hot Girls”, with an unexpected twist of image. Their clothes remind me of Roller Discos, all that is missing is retro roller skates and SeeYa are good to go….straight in to the 70s. What a waste of talent really, I do not dig the outfits, the hair, the clothes and choreography, the song isn’t so bad though. Whatever happened though to the news of Nam GyuRi leaving SeeYa? To be honest, I actually was egging on the news, since I find the two other members are criminally underrated and I truly don’t get all the interest Nam GyuRi is getting. Anyhow, good luck to them and their promotions, it’s sure to do well since SeeYa are so popular.
Epik Highs new album
Epik High – 1분 1초 (feat. 타루) English subbed by TheAsianMission
Epik High and their music differs from Season to Season/album to album yet still remains the same, and that is what’s so special about them. I have Epik Highs new mini-album and it’s up to par as expected with the talented Trio. 1분 1초 (1 minute 1 second) is definitely worth a listen and a watch for the MV, the rewinding and artistic interpretation of the songs meaning is vintage Epik High and continues to impress you as time goes on. It almost seems like these guys make things so effortlessly. I can’t wait to see them perform, their stage presence is always so captivating.
On a final note, The 7-Day Relay has been cancelled for more up-to-date and regular posts.

Ok, so I enjoyed my last newscast, and I thought it’s best to go that way from now on. So you don’t see the difference between this structure and my first? Well… whatever, I just like to type my thoughts out for the world to see. And it makes it looks like I have more than seven readers when I talk out directly.
Let’s get cracking with this weeks news:
Hallyu Hunk off the market
Gorgeous man that is Kwon SangWoo has officially spoken out via press conference that he is set to be married late this September. I think it’s time to start sobbing in to those hankies ajummas, and I say it fondly because I’m going to join you. Sexy SangWoo is set to marry Miss Korea second runner up Son TaeYoung. Apparently not many people are pleased. Not just with the fact that he’ll be off the market (not that many people had a realistic chance), but with whom he will be marrying. Netizens went nuts and started anti-ing up Ms. TaeYoung. SangWoo obviously hurt by their remarks spoke out to those people directly. “I, Kwon Sang Woo am not in love and getting married with a Miss Korea. I am really in love and getting married with a woman.” Now after the initial shock, I genuinely felt really happy for him. Ok, it was sudden, and it came with a very random person, but if that means happiness in the cold sad world of showbiz, I support it 100%. You with me ajummas? Afterall, this news wont change his position in our dreams.
KARA Comeback
Kara are coming back within days, the 24th if I’m gonna get specific. As a lot of people know they’re back with two members to the one they lost. The 5 member idol group format is known and most successful, so I was all nodding and interested at their upcoming debut until I saw their new members. Now, call me a cynic, because that’s what I am, but damn. One of their new members is like a child and the other is 17. What happened to the days where we used to look up at idol group members and wish were a little older so we could date them. Now that’s when I was 12-14. Now that I’m 21 and could date all the guys I used to have a crush on, but have since reconsidered since now theyre all weird, gay, married, insanely promiscuous and/or crazy. Anyhoo, back to the topic at hand, the girls are Gu Hara (1991) and Kang Jiyoung (1994).
Nam GyuRi leaves SeeYa funny her debut movie is a horror flick…
To be honest, Nam GyuRi kinda scares me, I mean I would never like to meet her in a dark alley or see her in the dark. Her smile and her “doll” image freaks me out a little. Nevertheless, shockingly to me she has gotten most of the attention out of the singing trio that is SeeYa. And her acting in their music video was mediocre, but people loved it nonetheless. I have no understanding of how they think, but it seems to have blown up her head a little (you’d think she’d be more humble after her ‘wardrobe malfunction’). Anyhow, she’s left SeeYa to pursue an acting career and a solo singing career. I don’t think her voice is ear-pleasing enough to go solo, but I will be looking forward to her new single. What will happen to the group now? Hmm… Mnet?
Is Elly still Sexy?!
Elly is Seo In Young if you didn’t know. Constantly a part of the gossip mills, Ms. Inyoung is going back to her solo singing for a wee while. Though she seems to have plenty of people hating on her (as we previously covered this week), she is funnily enough a seriously in-demand entertainer. Now I have a little confession to make, it doesn’t happen so often, but I would watch a show just because Seo In Young is in it. I wouldnt watch an ad though. She is entertaining and her joining ‘Ya Shim Man Man’ is proof enough of peoples interest in her. I hate her hair, hate it, hate it, hate it, with an unbelievable passion, her new mini-album is called “Elly is Cinderella”, so perhaps Fairy God Mother can give her a hairstyle worthy of CrownPrinceJ.
Here’s an ‘officially’ released teaser for a refreshing change.
Credit: jaeurazn
Lee Hyori Like how I mentioned her right after the officially released teaser??
Little Miss Lee HyoRi, has made everyone crazy about the Hyorish. Her music is inferior in my opinion to Uhm JungHwas(yes I must mention them together), but goodness is she really leveling the playing fields. I didn’t like ‘U Go GRRL’ to begin with, or the other leaked songs as much as JungHwas mini-album, but after her comeback I’m getting second thoughts. With performance after performance I keep watching and that bloody “GRRL” keeps playing over and over in my head. That song is a grower and HyoRis awesome stage presence and performing abilities livens up the song so much more. I must admit I prefer her debut performance at Music Bank than the rest, but I still continue to tune in. Though I am a part of the “Dress women up and undress men” Kpop movement, I must concede this one and say, enjoy it guys. I also am, but not for the same reasons. I for one will be rooting for both the sexy divas, just because it’s refreshing seeing such great performances on stage. Viva la entertainment! I’m finally getting seriously entertained. How’s about you?
Well, not yours or mine but talent agencies. And he bloody well deserves it. Mr. Kang Ho Dong and his crazy laugh have been entertaining people for ages. He’s come a heck of a long way from his wrestler days, he’s lost weight, got hitched and has scored successful shows on all major television networks. As well as of course winning awards, so now that his contract with Phantom Entertainment has ended, everyone wants a piece of him. Word has it he can ask for and get 2 Billion Won (a cool 2 million US). Wow, I wonder if he’s up for adopting any young adults….
No post is complete without shameless plugging of ones favourite idol….
Seo Taiji goes classical
Yes, with his comeback slowly reaching us, we get news that Mr. TaiJi is going to be going classical. On the 27th of September (a day before Kwon SangWoos wedding), “2008 Seo Tae-ji Symphony” will take place. How about that for experimentation? Well, ok classical music has always been used in various genres, but it’s exciting to see how Seo TaiJi is going to incorporate it to his music. He’s flying in classical conductor and composer Tolga Kashif, who once conducted the Royal Philharmonic and London Philharmonic orchestras, both critically acclaimed and admirable in the world of Classical Music. Come on guys, tell me you love him too?? Say it now before he’s officially back and everyone mindlessly joins the TaiJi troupe….

Kim Jong Wook, the new face of ballad is gaining much popularity for his sweet wedding proposals.
Following the appearances of actresses such as Jung So Young and Hwang Jung Eum, Seeya’s Nam Gyuri was the latest to be featured as the bride-to-be for Kim Jong Wook’s performance of “Only You” on KBS Music Bank on April 25th.
“Only You” is the title song for the popular MBC show “We Got Married” and is attracting much interest for Jong Wook’s affectionate proposals on stage. His name ranked #1 on search engines on April 20th when he featured actress Hwang Jung Eum (The Person I Love-SBS 2007) on the stage of SBS Inkigayo.
On April 25th KBS MuBank, SeeYa’s member Nam Gyuri was the 3rd guest appearance for Kim Jong Wook. She walked down the stage in a lovely, white wedding gown to accept Jong Wook’s proposal while listening to his song.
Netizens are already wondering who the next bride will be.

It sickens me to hear about it (because it’s not happening to me! Heheheheh), but anyways, this year has started off in flavor of love with all the recent news of a couple outing, and rumored relationships blooming all over the place *rolling eyes*.
First was news of Hyun Young and Kim Jong Min’s New Year coming out where the two were sighted together outside of Jong Min’s apartment in the parking lot.
And Hyun Young confirming that they indeed are a couple on a variety show.
Then there are rumors of Wonder Girl’s Min Sun Ye, and swimmer Park Tae Hwan (the one that Ivy lied and said was her cousin, but is not) reportedly by Netizens to be doing the hook-up thingy.
Netizens suggesting this because they both have similar Cyworld wallpaper backgrounds; Park Tae Hwan has a Micky Mouse wallpaper background, where as Min Sun Ye has a Minny Mouse wallpaper background, also Park Tae Hwan Cyworld page had the Wonder Girl’s songs playing in the background, and supposedly they have couple rings.
But recently those claims have been debunked (with so-called evidence) that Min Sun Ye is not the only Wonder Girl member with the Minny Mouse wall paper background, and that the couple rings look nothing alike.
HyunA Cyworld
Sun Ye Cyworld
(But Sun Ye does have a Mickey Mouse character on her page with his arms out for Minny…..mmmm… could that be a secret symbol of Sun Ye and Tae Hwan relationship?)
Different rings
(True or not….I think that she can do way better because that dude is mad ugly)
And now there is news of SG Wannabe’s Chae Dong Ha and SeeYa’s Lee Boram both from the same entertainment company are cup-caking(being lovey dovey) each other in private.
But I could’ve sworn that Chae Dong Ha had said at one time last year when he announced on a Korean variety show that he had a girlfriend, but that she was not famous. Chae Dong Ha, you lied to us *shaking fist into the air*.
Mnet Media the production company of the two groups (SG Wannbe and Seeya) responded to this rumor by saying that the two are not in a relationship.
I guess it’s good if they found love, or not. Congrats to them all!.

An interview of NamGyuri about her story before becoming a singer

● “I got chosen as a coffee barista by a famous gasoo.”
-What kind of work did you do before? (albeit)
I’ve served coffee, worked for Burger King. … the cheapest work I had to do was a CF for about 150,000 won($150.00)
-How long did you work for the burger joint?
4-5 mo. More than anything, I liked enjoyed eating all the burgers for free! (laugh) Even in the day, it was irritating having to ask if they wanted a side slice of cheese with that or not. My work was mainly to “set” the burgers in the back kitchen.
-Seemingly, you would have gained a whole lot of attention at the coffee shops from guys because of your appearance.
I worked on purpose in the coffee shop by the Eastside of ChungDam because most of the gayo enterprises are located there. I had to make good use of my time since I wanted to audition. There were nasty (raunchy) customers, people who’d ask when I was off all the time, or even flat out ask me out for a date. But decisively, I had no taste for any one of them. (laugh)
-Any chance of remembering a particular customer?
Oh! Well, this is the first time I’m confessing this, but this popular singer once asked for me to go out with him. When I worked for the bubble tea shop, we’d drink bubble tea together almost everyday and then when I moved jobs to the coffee shop next door, I don’t know how he found that out but he came by the shop next door as well. And then one day he said he liked me and that we should date since I’m going to be a singer anyway. At the time, dating was a luxury beyond my means because all I wanted was to hurry and save money for the audition. I totally refused. I think that’s probably why he doesn’t even look or greet me when we sometimes run into each other behind the stage.
-Did you save alot of money by working (albeit)?
Yes. I never took the cab, so almost close to 5,000.000won. (5,000 dollars) I left it in my mother’s hands.
One of my firm beliefs is to not go anywhere out of the house. Cause if I see it I know I’ll want to buy it. When I was working, I’d buy a pair of jeans for 35000won or 35.00 dollars and wear it for a year. In high school, I really envied the girls who took vocal lessons privately. At least I had a computer!
-Oh, you must have practiced music lessons through the computer.
No, but I searched “how to do voice vibrations” “how to create a husky effect” some topics like these and study on my own. It’s a stupid way but it helped out in a grand way.
-You’ll be featured in the 2.5 album music video for next month! Isn’t this the 2nd time?
Yeah. Sad Footsteps-Goodoo (Shoes)2. In the movie, I’ll star a room-service girl. While we were filming the part where I got hit in the head by a glass bottle, my head split somewhere and I bled. It hurt so bad that when the director made his cut sign and came right over, my face was smiling but I’m all bleeding, tears were all over my face. I thought, this is what’s just unbearable.(laugh) And with acting, I studied out of a book called Monologue of the color white. The expression I like the most up to this day is that I can relate well most when I’m destitute.

[DAMMIT ALL! BoA was gonna perform in Korea AGAIN! FUKC FUKC FUKC!!!!!]
Despite the rainy weather around Asia, the MKMF awards still continued.
Ahem, anyway. Let’s get to the point. By now, if you’re a big Korean Entertainment fan and is with it in all the latest news, you probably know about all the shock and rage from the fan(girls) whose idols did not win. Before I continue, see for yourself what the award show was like with the >>Compiled MKMF videos<< I compiled.
Well, let’s start with the DBSK fans. DBSK and BoA were stuck in Japan and could not make it to the award ceremony and perform. Poor fans! But what angered them the most is that DBSK didn’t win anything this year, quite a shocker yes (well to the fangirls at least)? Sources say that maybe it really wasn’t the weather’s fault… but more like the boys being too tired from a performance they did on the same day. If they had flied to Korea right after, it would have been too late for preparations. Lucky for them that the weather just happened to be bad so they could make an excuse not to come!
The weather was not so bad in Japan, but it was in Korea (or so they say…). Supposedly bad enough that flights to Korea were canceled, or that it was too dangerous for celebs like BoA and DBSK to be taking.
Can’t blame this one on BoA though, for her performances were done in the 16th and not on the same day. DBSK needs a better schedule manger. Their fangroup, Cassiopeia, fought with the guard because they didn’t come! M.net said that there was not a ‘board post’ that ensure DBSK for attend the event, so DBSK’s fans don’t have to make a big drama for this. Mr. SM on the other hand said, “Today on MKMF are invited some of our artists like Super Junior, CSJH and SNSD” so the absence of TVXQ wont cause a lot of controversy.”
After seeing the performance list, Tablo and BoRa were not included in the ANYBAND performance. Which was quite odd seeing as Epik High was there for Tablo to be able to participate. Here’s the set list of what it should have been:
Min Hyori + Jung Inwoo – Award presenters
Shin Dongyap + Lee Dahae – Emcees
Lee Yunjung – Designer
Park Jinyoung + Wonder Girls – Combined Dance Performance
Seo Nyeo Shi Dae + Wonder Girls + Black Pearl + Kara – Combined Dance Performance
Gackt (Japanese rock artist)
Zhen Yuan Chang (Taiwan artist)
TVXQ
Super Junior
BoA
Big Bang
Cheon Sang Ji Hee
Epik High
Seo Inyoung
Cheo Shinsung (Supernova)
Lee Minwoo
ANYBAND – BoA + Xiah Junsu – Performance
Younha
Fly to the Sky

Now, it’s my favorite time… the rant. Yes, and after you read this, you can share with me all your thoughts.
I’ll start off with the good, since there were people who deserved it. To make it easier for you, I shortened my reasons (ya’ll know how much I like to write ) Who’s on the list: SG Wannabe – Come on. These boys? What group can compete with such ballad vocal? No competition there. Epik High (for Hip Hop artists) – With awesome writing skillz and flow, it’s no disappointment here(I only say that because FreeStyle didn’t come out with anything) Clazziquai – Can anyone really compete with them this year? They’re so damn catchy. Humming Urban Stereo would have been a close call though.
(Definitely ma girl) Younha – Come on, piano skillz? Vocal skillz? Writing skillz? Even language skillz? And now dancing skills: >>1<< >>2<< Wodner Girls (best new female) – But then again, it could have been anyone like KARA or SNSD really. Black Pearl – no, Baby Vox Rev – no.
SeeYa – What other group out there that isn’t new deserves this?
Big Bang (for best male group and song of the year) – There’s no doubt about it. They were all over the media this year. I think they even deserved other awards…
So you’ve heard how SuJu was supposed to win the award that BIG BANG won, and the award that SuJu won was an award that someone else won. And now news has hit that there was a mistake, etc etc. Honestly, why is SuJu mad? Because they won an award they didn’t deserve and didn’t get the one that they paid for? This is the exact reason why Minwoo and Shin Hye stepped out of MKMF, they knew it as rigged! MKMF awarded those who had great achievement lately, not the whole year. If they did award for achievement through out the year, it would have been KARA’s award that Wonder Girl’s got. And where’s Fly to the Sky? Don’t tell me they don’t deserve something. Kim Ji Eun? As a new artist, she’s been blowing people away!
Which brings me back to my first topic. Bad weather? Of course not! They knew this was going to be a joke of an award show! If the weather was so bad in Seoul, BoA and the boys could have took a flight to another airport in Korea and drove there!
Now, you may be asking yourself, “If it’s rigged, then why do they even bother to make poles?” Well the more interactive shows like these are, the more people will watch to see if their idols won.
And Super Junior as ‘ARTISTS OF THE YEAR’ ARTIST?! Dose anyone KNOW what an artist is?! FOR THE LOVE OF YO MAMA, artists are not a bunch of boys who sing with no over the top talent! Tell me, ANYONE, especially you crazy fangirls, EXACTLY what is their talent? What is it that they contribute to the ART of music? To the ART of dancing?! For heaven’s sake, even their hair isn’t a work of art! Their fashion is far from it as they all dress alike! And their faces look like abstract to me! Gah, I am furious. It’s bad enough that they took home a bunch of a awards, but it angers me that they got ARTIST of the year! If BIG BANG won this, but lost ‘MALE GROUP OF THE YEAR’, I would have been fine. I probably would have still preferred BIG BANG for both, but at least I know that a group deserved something for their art for G-Dragon actually wrote the song that got them the attention they so deserved.
Only awards SuJu deserved were the ‘AUCTION NETIZEN POPULARITY’ and ‘MOBILE POPULARITY’ awards. Why? Because there are so many freaking fans on the internet and mobile, that’s why. Plus, remember how many ’supporting’ fans SuJu had when they boycotted Henry joining? (Oh~ the love~ *eye roll*) End of statement, that’s a fact.
That being said, here’s my list of those who are undeserved: SuJu – ‘Artists’ my ass. IVY – No, not because of her so called “sex scandal” (it ain’t a scandal till there’s proof. So show me the goods already!) but because I don’t see her as talent. Kim Ji Eun or Lee Jung Hee totally deserved it. Shinhwa – OKAY fucking seriously. Not because I’m a BoA fan, but WHERE in the hell is Shinhwa bigger than BoA overseas? More people know BoAin the U.S., her career is bigger in Japan (it IS the biggest Korean career in Japan), and China knows her as well. Let’s not forget the South Asians who praise her too! I think maybe even RAIN (as much as I hate him) might have deserved this!
To quote someone else, “BEST ARTIST AS IN ARTIST THAT “SINGS” BEST?
SUPER JUNIOR CAN’T EVEN SING. LOLS. THAT’S THE FACT.
THIS IS WAY OVERATED. MNET HAS ITS SENSE OF HUMOUR AS ALWAYS.” – Anonymous
_______________________________________
Anyway, enough with that; let’s get to the fun part!
Before the award ceremony, all I would read about in the girl group forums (forums for KARA, SNSD, and Wonder Girls) were voting for the DANCE BATTLE. Being that I’m a fan of the three of them, I couldn’t choose!
My exact thoughts while watching this (I took out the drooling comments ;]):
Uhhh how exactly did BLACK PEARL even get a part when hey didn’t dance?
And SNSD had the same dance from their video… KARA actually used a NEW dance and performed a remix… Wonder Girls came out in gun and interactive way, really confident too.
Competition was definitely between KARA and WG. All the songs were great though. And the Individual dances were good! Nicole danced for KARA, SunYe danced for Wonder Girls, Mika danced for BLACK PEARL, and prodigy HyoYun danced for SNSD/SuShi. Dizzam, you saw how everyone got up for HyoYun? XD
Mika chick messed up in the beginning of the last group dance (you have to watch closely)
Surprised that Sun Ye was the one that danced, and not Ye Eun or SooHee (whom by the way is looking a lot less…weird looking but more like really pretty).
But ‘Best dance’ award goes to CSJH? I mean, I know Stephanie is awesome, and all four of them are hot… but the bigger topics this year were KARA, Wonder girls, and SNSD…. As much as I wanted KARA to win, I really thought with Wonder Girl’s ‘Tell Me’ spreading like the black plague, that it would win!
In the end, the congratulations goes to WONDER GIRLS who took the prize for the dance battle. And I must say, this song from Black Pearl ain’t bad… the first song I heard from them was not my type at all… but I see their voices are really good. But good enough to be with SeeYa and Brown Eyed Girls?
_______________________________________
Trend of the night: FUR. Seriously, everyone and their mama was wearing fur! Even sexy Lee Da Hae wore it for her performance!
Who looked the hottest that night? Lee Da Hae, that’s who. Never mind that her version of I Love Rock and Roll was laughed over by some (I thought it was okay until the chorus…) but admit it. She was hot. Her outfit in yellow… >>was hot<<. Did I mention it was hot?
OH! But let’s not forget that she played the drums! And ya’ll know how much props I give on that.
Other stars of the night:
Nice to see Park Si Yun (from My Girl) in there and looking good and the leader of the Park team on XMAN (sorry, I forget her name!) was looking great as well. And man, Younha came in style! She was looking great AND someone was holding the umbrella for her (talk about pampered!). Unlike Wonder Girls, who had the wind and rain falling on them.
All in all, horrible show. No Se7en, no BoA, no DBSK, not even Hyori!? And Gackt didn’t even perform LAST SONG? —- Wait, why WAS >>Gackt<< there in the first place? XD Why not Angela Aki, Utada Hikaru, Ayumi Hamasaki, YUI or Kamiki Aya? Hell, Morning Musume was there, why not them? Was it because Gackt is such a sexy beast? If so, they should have asked The GazettE to come, since there’s five sexy beasts in there. All young too. Mhhm mhmm *nod nod*

OMG they are soooo going out! Top K-pop and hip-hop stars will gather for the “Summer Big 4 Concerts,” on July 21 and 22. Promising to be one of the biggest musical events this summer, “Summer Big 4 Concerts” will be held at the Olympic Gymnasium, Olympic Park.
On July 21, the Exciting Starconcert will feature performances by four of the most exciting hip-hop performers namely, Drunken Tiger, T Yoon Mi-rae, Dynamic Duo and Epik High.
Drunken Tiger, also known as Tiger JK, is one of the leading members of the Korean hip-hop scene. T, who released her solo album earlier this year, is considered a brilliant female rapper and R&B artist.
Dynamic Duo has just released their new album “Enlightened.” Epik High is one of the popular groups in Korea, with recent hits like “Fan” and “Love Love Love.”
The Fantastic Star concert features SG Wannabe, Seeya, Yangpa and new group FT Island on July 22. These four artists are known for their powerful ballads and forceful voices.
SG Wannabe is one of the most popular vocal groups today, winning over fans with their romantic songs. Seeya may be considered as the female version of SG Wannabe, but this all-girl trio also impressed many with their vocal talents.
Yangpa is back in the music scene, releasing an album “The Windows of My Soul” after a six-year absence. FT Island, whose name stands for Five Treasure Island, is one of the rising K-pop groups today. FT Island released their first album “Cheerful Sensibility” last month, and has been steadily attracting fans.
The two concerts are perhaps the most exciting event so far this summer. Special guests are also expected to appear during both.
Ticket prices for the Exciting Star concert range from 49,500 won to 71,500 won. The tickets for Fantastic Star concert range from 55,000 won to 110,000 won for VIP seats. For more information, call 1544-0737 or www.goodconcert.com.
Three ladies dressed in colorful spring clothes. The 3-member female group “See Ya“ released its second album, “Lovely Sweetheart,” on May 25. Although the group grabbed the limelight and earned the nickname, “Female SG Wannabe,” with their debut album which enjoyed strong sales of some 100,000 copies a year ago, it came under harsh criticism from listeners who complained, “All the songs are similar,” or “It’s too bland.” One thing that seemed quite certain was that they would no longer sing sad songs in the future. The following are their answers to five key words that are as much distinctive as their appearances.
1. Change: “You have now released your second album. How is it different from releasing your first album last year?”
“People often say a 1-year career in the entertainment industry is equivalent to a regular 3-year career. So many things occurred during the short period of time (breast exposure, the convulsion of a background dancer, etc.). As I am no longer a rookie, even small mistakes cannot be tolerated. But I am now more mentally prepared for difficulties.” (Nam Gyu-ri, 22)
2. Criticism: “There was criticism that there were too many medium-tempo ballads in the first album.”
“It just happened to be a trendy genre among many other genres. The only concern was that my life might begin to resemble those sad songs.” (Kim Yeon-jin, 21)
See Ya sampled Edward Elgar’s “Salut D`amour,” for their title track, “Love’s Greeting.” Also, the song is completely different from their previous ones. They even tried not to sing it with too many techniques or dramatic pitch changes to lighten up the atmosphere of the song. “Shall We Marry?” with a reggae rhythm is also a new attempt. They say it makes them blush as if they have become brides. Other songs include trots, “You Are My Man,” and “Pure Love, and the dance track “Dirty Dancing,” reminiscent of Jennifer Lopez. Although the tracks lack depth, they illustrate See Ya’s attempts to pursue a wide range of music genres. So how would they grade their new album? Lee Bo-ram, 21, confidently said, “100.” And then she quickly added, “Actually, I’ll give it 100 out of 200. It’s now up to listeners to grade the other half.”
3 Uniqueness: “Do you want to be called artists?”
“I think our music has a strong appeal to those in their 20s. We don’t want to rush anything. Although we are referred to as ‘Female SG Wannabe,’ I think we will make more changes than “SG Wannabe.” (Lee Bo-ram)
4. Identity: “Nam Gyu-ri’s individual activities. See Ya = Nam Gyu-ri?”
“I am sorry to the other members. I started to appear in entertainment programs because my management agency asked me to do so. But now I have almost become a regular guest in those programs. Although they encourage my show program appearances, I have to shoulder the burden of making an extra effort since I have to study something else than music.” (Nam Gyu-ri)
5. Desire: “Entertainer or Musician?”
“Some singers try every possible means to attract attention because people show less interest in music these days. Many songs are being poured into the market, but are not remembered. I think some singers’ extreme mentality of trying to do nothing but sing for the rest of their lives regardless of the circumstances can be poisonous.” (Kim Yeon-ji)
“Our aim is to not lose the balance. We want to unlock See Ya’s own color even if it means introducing a great deal of changes.” (Nam Gyu-ri)
