There are many blogs on the internet providing fans and spectators alike with juicy gossip and news updates on the Asian Entertainment Industry. They range from obsessive fan clubs, gossip portals, and dignified news/review sites. But what is the art of blogging? There are so many different styles, all providing a multi-faceted perspective on how we view and consume entertainment.
ShenYuePop! has stood out from the myriad blogs as a site that exhibits up-to-date news in a bold, often humourous critique. This is only possible through the hard work and passion of the writers on ShenYuePop! staff and other amateur bloggers who contribute to this site. Not to mention, other bloggers who graciously allow us to share their news and insight from their personal blogs on our site. And of course, the readers who post comments and interact with the ShenYuePop community make this site dynamic and all the more worthwhile to read and write for. Lastly, we can’t forget the founder and brainchild of this site, ShenYue, who have gone through sunshine and rain to keep this site running. She has sacraficed a lot overcome the language barrier and provide news in other Asian countries to foreigners. Thank you all for making ShenYuePop! your #1 source for Asian Entertainment.
ShenYuePop recently made #4 on the chart for blog juice by London Korean Links.

One of our readers Miza did an interview with Jini former member of K.I.S.S
She asked me to share the interview with you guys ^^///
For those of you might not be familiar with them ..
K.I.S.S is a disbanded Korean pop female trio.
they became popular in 2002 with their first single, “여자 이니까” (”Because I’m A Girl”)
K.I.S.S - Because i’m a girl (English Subtitle)
K.I.S.S is well known for their first single “Because i’m a girl” which was a huge hit abroad rather than in Korea. When they came out with their 1st album in 2001, actually they were outside the boundaries of the mainstream music marketplace which was already taken over by dance bands with clear cut features.
Although they disbanded under the circumstances the year after, as this video continued to spread through the internet, Jini (Kiss’s lead vocal) sang it in English esp for fans abroad.

K.I.S.S - Because i’m a girl ( English Version ) by Jini
Out of the three, Jini is the Korean-American member
and this interview was conducted with her in English!
Date: 23rd April 2008 1. Now that “KISS” has disbanded for many years now, but your hit song has always been with the fans for years. How do you feel about it?
- It’s awesome. I remember as soon as K.I.S.S. broke up, I wanted to kind of break away from my ex-group and make my own image. However, when I got a little bit more mature, I realized that my ex-group was the beginning of my music career. It’s something that I’m completely proud of and will always be a part of me.
It’s so cool how I still get emails from people in various parts of the World who have heard the song or watched the video for the first time. I still can’t believe it.
It makes me really proud, and I’m glad to be a part of it.
2. Can you share with us any memorable experience when you were still with KISS?
- There were many. Majority of them came from the recording process. Especially when I first recorded, since I couldn’t speak Korean too fluently. I remember writing all the lyrics in Konglish and messing up a lot of the words. Most of my fun came from the recording process and of course performing. =) Also it was funny during the time K.I.S.S. were together people would come up to me and say “Wow, you’re not as ugly as you are on TV”. LoL! They were so brutally honest it was kinda refreshing. (During K.I.S.S., they stuck me in the back left (right on tv screens), put the worst make-up possible on me. However, I don’t have a ‘video-face’… so television made me look even more horrid. So to hear people say they thought I wasn’t as ugly as I was on TV actually made my self-esteem go up higher.
3. What are your all-time favourite tracks from your old album?
- I love all of them now since I’m older and I appreciate everything and every song. However, when I first recorded it I was only 19 years old… and only liked to sing certain songs, so I only liked about 4 songs. “True Love”, “Because I’m A Girl”, “Without U”, and “Answer The Phone”.
4. You have been going to different places all over Asia so far, and even in the US, is/are there any particular place/country you still want/hope to visit?
- Too many to name. There’s so many different countries in the World, if I could… I’d go to all of them. =)
5. Name one International artist, and one Korean artist that you wish to have a duet with and tell us why?
- Oh goodness, just ONE each? I can’t do it. Hehe. =P I would LOVE to duet with Leonna Lewis, Robyn, Park HwaYoBi, Lena Park, As One, Ladytron, Trent Reznor… Bah. I could go on for days! Wishful thinking though. hehe.
6. If you were to act in a movie, what type of movie would you want to be in? (romantic comedy, romantic, horror, actions, etc)
- Ack. I have a horrible “video face”. I look horrid on video camera and television, so it’s completely out of the question… though I’ve always wanted to do acting as a side project in the future. I’d go for corny horror or a comedy. Preferably me playing a goofy comedic character. =P
7. Are there any plans for a comeback?
- In Korea? Depends. This sounds kinda crazy, but I keep having dreams about Korea and singing there. Literally. O_o I think it’s because I never released a solo album, and as a person who likes to attain goals: I think I keep dreaming the same dream due to unfinished business.
At this time, I’m planning on doing projects here in the States, and if it allows me to go back to Korea later on.. I’d love to go back and release an album or two.
8. Do you have any official website address or fanpages which you would like the fans to visit in order to follow your updates and your music?
- I have two music myspace pages (aside from my main myspace page), my website is continuously under construction! LoL. I was on a 3 year hiatus and now I’m getting back on the horse to making new material, so the goal is by next year to have plenty of music on both of my music myspace pages available for download and purchase. =) A lot of the songs will be experimental, but of course there will be plenty of Pop music and Ballads. =)
9.Any messages for your fans out there who will be reading this?
- I probably only have about 50 worldwide… hehe. But those 50 are the coolest in the World! Promise to stay tuned and know that more music is on it’s way. It’s been too long since I’ve been on hiatus, and the bug has hit me hard! I want to thank those of you out there who continue to support. I want to make you all proud! :::hugs::: (Okay, hopefully that wasn’t too corny! LoL).

ShenYue: Sorry for being too late for the report guys!
This was our first event in real life ShenYuePop was invited as a media partner!
And being our first time to attend a live event to collect our very own news first handed and fresh from the field has been very meaningful to us! The event was held in Malaysia and we were able to have total of 4 of the SYP staff, administration and Korean translator to capture the live actions on the field and the rest of the global team to take care of the usual administration jobs but times 1000 in load and difficulty! By far this is this is the only post we have ever worked on for this long and with so much coming at us. I would like to thanks all the SYP staffs and the administration partners for their dedication, patience and work ethic! Thank You.
We’ve been very busy lately creating relationships with stars in the K-Pop industry. Our goal at ShenYuePop has always been to bring you the latest and greatest news, and what better way than to bring the news directly to you from major players in the industry?
Brian Joo is a very respectable and talented artist in the K-Pop industry, a legend if we may say so, and even with his grueling schedule, Brian found the time to provide us with an exclusive interview!
Well, without further ado, here’s our first exclusive celebrity interview (of many to come)!
Q1: It’s already the year 2008!! Do you have anything you want to do in this New Year?
A1: I wanna go into acting and hopefully into Hollywood to break into the US market… Just Like Yun Jin Park(from “LOST”) and James Kyson Lee(from “HEROES”)
(Lost and Heroes are two of his fav. tv shows!! Oops, he made a mistake in his answer…it’s Kim Yun Jin, not Park Yun Jin..hehe)
Q2: What are your New Year’s Resolutions, that’s if you have any?
A2: To get back into shape and build a healthier body… To be stronger emotionally because I am way too sensitive… and to spend more time with God and build-up my spiritual life…
(He likes to work out and is very religious. Brian…hope u finish reading that Bible of yours soon ^^)
Q3: We heard that Hwanhy’s coming out with a solo album. Is it true and can you give us any info at this time about it?! Even if it’s the slightest tidbits ^^
A3: Well, Hwany is going to be releasing a solo album but, since he’s busy with is drama “SaRangHae”, I don’t have an exact date when that will be released… sorry, for not being much help to you…
(yay!! Can’t wait for his album and drama ^^)
Q4: So you guys are having the “Ready to Launch” concert in Hawaii on February 9th. Why did you guys choose to have it in Hawaii instead of a place where there are more fans, like in LA?!
A4: Well, to be honest, Hawaii contacted us and wanted us to do a show there and I’ve never been there so I am looking forward to it… And it’s not that we’re not trying to do shows in other areas, but we just need time to talk to business people in those areas and we need to get sponsors… I hope you understand…
(fans, start booking your tickets and get ready to party!!)
Q5: Have you ever thought of crossing over to the US or just coming out with an English album?
A5: Plenty of times, but timing is always an issue… Cause we always end up doing other things to keep us from doing all the things we want to do… Hopefully, one day… I’ll get to live that dream of breaking out into the States
(Brian, never give up, hwaiting!!)
Q6: It’s almost your’s and Hwany’s birthday!! Is there anything special you guys want to receive or do?!
A6: I know this’ll sound like an obvious answer, but I really appreciate and love all the gifts our fans give us… even the little things… Although, I do know that I’m getting a few HUGE gifts this year, like a computer, monitor, speakers, and so on… I LOVE MY FANS~!
(Brian’s birthday is on the Jan. 10th and Hwany’s is on the 17th!! Now…I gotta find his address…haha…fans please don’t stalk him!!)
And Brian (if you’re reading this), THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to reply back to us!! We really appreciated it!! I really can’t stop thanking you for this!! I love you!!
