All of you have probably been reading up, in perhaps, the largest case this time round with SM Entertainment. Every time they reach their peak they seem to find a way to dwindle back down again.

Some of you will remember when ShinHwa left SM, and even less of you will remember when H.O.T broke up. Each time was unique unto its own, but one thing was a constant, SMs mishandling and mistreatment of their stars. This time it’s DBSKs turn to face them head on.

No one at their highest form would want to drop from the label that made them famous. If anything they should have a loyalty with each other, a loyalty that goes beyond a legal contract, a deep bond and trust that comes from years of training and years of being an active star under the guide of their company.

But when things like this happen over and over again, it makes it clear who one should trust when a lawsuit like this, or a discussion like this arises. “Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me”. And this being the third time with their biggest active stars, the public should follow that saying properly and stop being fooled. No one is saying it’s time to blind ourselves, deafen our ears and just follow whatever the DBSK lawyers say. No, but to see through the media guise that SM have been using.

It’s undeniably clear who are indeed the “victims” and who are the wolves in wannabe sheep clothing are.

Honestly, I always had low expectations when it came to SM. But when the figures came out from the DBSK lawyers my eyes still popped out of their sockets.

I thought it was bad, real bad, and my expectations were low, real low, but SM still managed to beat my expectations and make me see that I in fact didn’t give them enough credit with their slave contracts.

a 13 year contract?

In the Entertainment business, that is a contract for showbiz LIFE. And it being 13 years means that they signed it before they debuted and of course were underage. Wow, talk about low.

And I have no doubt in believing that SM knew that DBSK would be big. Think about it, if you want boy bands you go to SM, they know how to make them well, especially the 5 member boy band. They did it once with H.O.T, had an extra member with Shinhwa, and even though they’re expectations were low in the beginning with Shinhwa, they proved themselves worthy and turned out amazing. So, even in their negligence they still had a great group that dominated. And by just looking and listening at DBSK, even before they take the stage, you could tell that these boys were going places.

What I guess pissed me off the most, is the amount of control that SM had over these poor boys lives.
Everything, big or small was controlled by them, one week holidays in a year, having to comply to SMs scheduling, without contest, having to pretty much do anything and everything they say to you and when you complain are ignored?

That is, quite simply, stripping them of their basic rights as human beings. Having no free will pretty much means you are a slave.

It’s outrageous. And what is even more devious to me is SMs handling of the other two of DBSK. At the time that the three DBSK boys in question were spotted heading to lawyers offices’, SM suddenly announced a change of schedule for Yunho, a new drama, and days later came news of Changmin working on a new drama. It pretty much looked like a known war tactic, divide and conquer.

Whats worse for SM than all 5 standing united against them? That would probably cause a larger dive in stock too. And what this does is, do the best damage SM would want to the masses, create doubt. “Why not all 5?” … “JaeJoong, YooChun and Junsu are selfish/suffering/betrayed/malicious…..” “Yunho and Changmin are cowardly/loyal/traitors/selfish….” This splits the fans a part and makes the public/shareholders wonder.

And what do DBSK need the most now? Support. From fans and the public alike.

So far even with JaeJoong, Yoochuns and Junsus press release, there is one clear thing there. They are talking about DBSK as a unit, and not them on their own. And them gaining anything would be for all their sakes. And I don’t really think talking about the Cosmetics Company is even worth the bother, because clearly, that is not the issue at all, just a tactic by SM to deviate from the true issue. Talking about the Cosmetics company is as futile as talking about Lee SooMans venture in to the Wine making business.

Let’s attack the points DBSK stated in their Press release:

The 13 Year Contract:
- Does not include Military Service.
- Cancelling the exclusivity clause means triple the amount of Investment by SM and double the loss in earnings.
- Cancelling the contract amounts to moneys we can never dream of knowing how large they are.
- No Contract Fees.
- Album earnings: Don’t sell over 500K, get nothing.

It’s insane when you look at it plainly. So basically, there is no way out, because they’re not even paid a quarter of how much they need to get these clauses lifted from their contract, and will only dream of getting paid the amount that gets them to cancel their contracts. Another note, if they ever so wish to invest in something that may get them a decent amount of money outside the entertainment industry, SM will make sure to blow it out of proportion and make them look like villains (cosmetics business issue). So SM pretty much left them so suffocated, that the only time they can breathe is when they’re so worn out, that they mentally and physically can’t get anywhere afterwards. Nice, that’s a good way to enslave someone, I’ll take note of it when my soul evaporates and my morals are eaten by the Easter Bunny.

DBSKs complaints:
- SM keeps avoiding the true issue.
- No matter how many times they have asked for revisions made, they have been turned away.
- They have been defamed by claims of greed and betrayal about a cosmetics company.
- They lost faith in any rational negotiations and have had to resort to legal actions.
- SM twisted everything cos they know that we’re saying the truths.
- They made us lose the will to continue our dreams.
- We want to stay as one, so bloody hell just comply and let us all be happy.

I may have rephrased things slightly, but that’s the gist of things. What makes me wonder the most is, if SM gets such monstrously huge percentages from their artists, how on Gods Green Earth do they manage to fall in to deficit? O_O

And the first response to the press release?

SM said:

We hired a lawyer-man!

When I saw articles about their one response about them hiring a lawyer I couldn’t help but laugh, you have to have a legal department or at least a legal consultant already, how else would you have contracts SMarties?

But then they went out full force…

SMs claims:
- They made 11Billion Won now, so get over it!
- We gave them expensive gifts, FOREIGN and expensive gifts… See, we can be nice!
- That money doesn’t include CFs, endorsements, etc.
- We told them they would get tired before they did this, so there!
- Come on, come on, there’s only THREE OF THEM involved in this case, of course it’s all about makeup, so they can keep up their image and market the products as their own!
- There is no law that says we can’t have contracts longer than 7 years! yay for loopholes!
- There’s no law saying singers can’t promote overseas, stop your belly-aching!
- We changed the exclusivity rights clause a few times, here’s some dates and some reasons why, but we wont tell you what the conditions were.
- We’re slave-drivers and we love it!

Again, I twisted some wording myself, but the message is still the same, and I figure someone has to twist SMs words, its not fair, they do it to everyone, they should get hit with it! Nonetheless, SMs figures seem a little shady, no specifics again. Was it pre-tax, how much did they actually get? Would it be so hard to actually produce the accounts and then let the courts tell us the figures as opposed to your one figure and no proof?

About the wonderful gifts, it’s nice to know that you think you’re their Sugar Daddies. Mentioning gifts seems like they’re trying to make up for something…over compensation anyone? And there’s word going round that the cars that the boys have aren’t in fact gifts from SM, but under SMs name and not theirs. So, DBSK are pretty much borrowing them.

And Japan and China and all their other activities, where does that money go…. Most importantly, those hundreds of concerts they’ve done? Again, where do you put that moneys SM, who does it go to?

I addressed this before and I knew it would come up from mighty SM, the fact that only 3 are involved in this. Well, SM, if you victimise someone long enough, twist them and prod them, force them to do so much, and then make them out to be evil doers who invest their money in makeup, that they wont stand up for themselves? And evidently, it isn’t above SM to manipulate others and their schedules, so could it have been possible that they made YunHo and ChangMins schedule so busy that they physically could not be able to consult with lawyers and sign agreements saying they will partake in a court case as such? And seriously, trust them to bring it up so many times, if they keep it bringing it up I’m going to brand the SM board as drag queens who like to put on Chinese makeup every weekend and are jealous that the boys are shareholders and not them.

I think I’ve rattled on for long enough, but no matter what, this is probably the case to keep your eye on, fan or no fan, this is the biggest group in Asia and one of the biggest entertainment companies in Korea. I won’t guarantee that I’ll be covering this, I just found the press release so ludicrous that I couldn’t keep my ramblings for my own private journal.

Fans should, of course, keep the faith in their boys. This lawsuit by the three was probably the hardest decision they have had to make in their entire lives. The stress that comes with it, the bashing, the war that will ensue, the character defamation, the effect on reputation and of course the effect on family is just so immense. Junsus dad was even harassed at their pizza place for some words on it, with which he gave no comment. They knew it would happen and still went through with it, knowing also that SM would have a strong hold on the media. So it just seems incredibly petty to think it would simply be about a cosmetics business, don’t you think?

Where are all of yous?

Boys you have my support, keep on truckin and change those contracts for good! It worries me to think that kids as young as 6 may have this kind of thing in store for them in the future. Hopefully this means that all contracts under SM will be revised. Slave Management Entertainment needs a complete legal reform and hopefully this will be the new beginning and the kick in the backside to get them treating people like human beings.

I’m sure a lot of you have heard about the rumors about DBSK,  Asia conquerors and record holders of the World, and SM Entertainment, Slave drivers and Jackasses of the Entertainment biz. Well, we weren’t going to cover it initially cos well, it was blah to begin with and filled with he-said, she-said, they-lied schizz, but now things are becoming so clear.

SM Entertainment is run by a bunch of childish greedy whiny kiddies.

Shall I summarize and simplify what’s going on?

Since I neglected the site for the last few days for my own personal holiday (hey the beach frolicking pics made me jealous), that and now I’m free, I’m going to for funsies.

DBSK have always been the biggest money-makers for SM ever since Shinhwa left SM Entertainment. The DBSK boys have only been growing in popularity and eventually made records on a world scale with their humongous fanbase. They’re fun, happy, jolly and hella talented, so of course they would be loved. Not to mention, they’re also seriously hot.

SM have in the past had a great formula for success, it all started with Mr. Lee SooMan hunting down schoolgirls to ask them what kind of boyband they would like to see.. Yeah, it sounds wrong, but he insists it’s OK…I mean look at his marketing plan for SNSD! All for the good of his business! With the results of the surveys he created H.O.T and made them the great success they were. A few years later they broke up. That was followed by their negligence of Shinhwa and once successful, their suffocation of them which eventually made them leave and buy rights to their name after a lengthy and brutal legal battle.

So, after the bad past SM have had with H.O.T and Shinhwa, one would be smart enough to assume that SM would, like the smart adult businessmen they are, learn from their mistakes and make sure DBSK don’t end up the same way. But that’s not the case, they’re still the proud, stubborn, greedy business that refuses to let the artist get what they’re owed.

It seems that even DBSK have no idea how much they earn. Um… say what? Aren’t they meant to know, in accordance to any developed countries legal system? It should be clear on contract how much they get, ratio-wise and they should know their accounts.

Slave contracts as well were meant to be abolished a very long time ago! Artists should receive a fair amount of money from their work. After all, they do have a lot on their shoulders, and DBSK should have also paid off all the debts they incurred with SMEs training program.

Now, the hubbub comes from a lot of conflicting news, what with SMs sudden announcements about Yunho and Changmins acting arrangements.

If anything, it seems like provocation from SMs side, alienating those involved with the lawsuit. Thus, the rumors about the “disbandment”.

So yes, SM has been quite malicious, although obviously in the wrong.

SM has a lot of pull in the industry, many a time using their connections to force companies to allowing their artists to have exclusive appearances, MC gigs and shows. A lot of the time even getting banned from certain channels, last year MBC, this year KBS in the first few weeks of the year and now Mnet.

How did this hubbub start? Because of Hero JaeJoong, Micky YooChun and Xiah JunSu investing in a Chinese Cosmetics company with their own money. It’s not at all clear why SM have such an issue with their involvement in a separate company, since they have all had money invested in businesses in the past.

The only thing some people think is the issue that SM has with the Chinese company, which has now been claimed by the boys lawyer to be “blown out of proportion”, is that they may bank on the name DBSK without SM getting a slice of the action.

What with their already large cut of the pie, rumored to be from 75%-90% to the management company and then the remainder split to 5 people, it’s no wonder the boys are probably enraged.

It’s evident now that after 5 years and more of working their fine booties off for SM, and then getting their name slandered, through making their investment out to be some sort of betrayal, not only to SM but Changmin and Yunho, that they filed for a lawsuit yesterday (July 31st). The lawsuit asks for all their accounts to be sent in for review by the courts.

Which of course means that their contract will also have to be assessed.

Smart move boys. Yet what this does, is further alienate the other two, making them stuck in the middle. What was an issue about 3 of the boys with a cosmetics company has turned it in to a war between them and SM, with Yunho and Changmin as casualties lying in no-mans-land. After all, the other two were obviously played as pawns, what with the SM Entertainment backed drama for Changmin, and the 2 for 1 offer with Yunho and Go ARa.

It’s a smart thing to keep yourself waiting for a few days as opposed as every hour of the day plastered to the comp for updates on the matter. It won’t be resolved very quickly, if anything this is the best thing to happen to DBSK for a while, they will finally get what they deserve, hopefully. Same with Karma and SM Entertainment, this is throwing all their dirty laundry out for all to see, and it really is stinky.

Perhaps this will make things better for the rest of the acts under SME. The clearest thing seems to be now is the real name of SM Entertainment. The abbreviations aren’t really “Star Museum” as was previously claimed, it’s Slave Management.

All in all, what’s going to happen isn’t clear, what with SMTown Live coming soon…

Although a lot of people will be left disappointed, DBSKs appearance may fall through and perhaps even, the entire show may be cancelled since a lawsuit is officially under way.

Everything else in accordance to this issue is rumor and not fact, don’t worry too much Cassiopeias.

A few days ago we posted about Kim JongEuns show ‘Chocolate’ with the Lee MinWoo and Moon HeeJun feature, and we were not left disappointed.

The two Idols got together with host Kim JongEun, had a chat about the old days, performed songs of their awesome groups and songs from their solo careers.

The dance battle was fun to watch, which was pretty much Lee MinWoo and Moon HeeJun dancing to the H.O.T and Shinhwa classics back to back. Check out the video and watch from 4:00 too see it for yourselves.

The finale is what got me. A HeeJun/M collabo with the two singing/rapping to Seo TaiJi and Boys classic hit “Classroom Idea/Ideal Classroom” (교실 이데아), it’s one of my all time faves, tell me what you think of it. (It starts at 2:43). They also dance together here…

On Kim JongEuns show “Chocolate”, both Moon HeeJun and Lee MinWoo of H.O.T and ShinHwa respectively, showed up and a had a little “dance battle”.

I’m really eager to see this and it’ll be broadcast on the 25th, and then we’ll get to see the young Ajoushis boogy together and belt out some songs.

With sad eyes and a full heart JunJin of Legendary Shinhwa is heading off to do his Mandatory Military Service this February.

It’s sad to see the Shinhwa members go off to the Army, knowing we won’t be seeing them for a whole two years, but of course it is their duty as South Korean Young men.

Leader of Shinhwa Eric has already trotted off to the army, and after 4 weeks of training he is performing his civil duty as we speak. Next in line it seems of the Shinhwa members to go is cuteypie Kim DongWan (can you tell I like him?).

With his busy schedule JunJin had to put off his entrance in to the Army due to his schedule and unavoidable album work. JunJin has been receiving a lot of love recently due to his many activities, and we wish him the best of luck and cant wait to see what he has planned for us before he enlists.

Final Goodbyes

The biggest news of last week was of course, actor/Model/DJ Lee Eons passing. The news rocked a lot of netizens and fans as it was a sudden and sad death. Rest In Peace Lee Eon you shall be missed.

Photo Movie?

Actress Kim HaNeul and actor/model Daniel Henney have come together to star in a “Photo-Movie” called ‘Sweet September’. It’s a joint project by Elle and On Style and it seems like quite an interesting artistic idea, which of course was “borrowed” from the French like a lot of music we’re seeing nowadays too. I’m looking forward to see how they work this out and how good it may or may not be….

SHINee, um… Shines?

That’s the worst name to try and tag to be honest. Nevertheless these 5 young boys have stormed back in to the Music World and made quite an impression.

Promotional Ambassadors anyone?

First we need to know what a promotional Ambassador is, but SHINee deserve some kudos for landing this gig…. I guess. Group 8 continue to baffle us in terms of their ‘Hana Yori Dango” release, and instead of announcing the stars of the show they have provided us with some SHINee for our eyes. Not that we’re complaining, but it just doesn’t seriously make much sense. Why do you need a promotional ambassador for a Drama that hasn’t even announced stars or quite possibly started filming yet? Anyhow, SHINee will be releasing the single “In My Room” off their first mini album for the drama with accompanying MV. Group 8 stop playing games please, I am seriously starting to not care anymore…

Well, with SM it never really ever left. Anyhow, SHINees remake title track “Love Like Oxygen” is out and so is the full MV, and I cant get my head around the material for their pants. Is it not the worst thing to wear while you dance those moves? What is it anyway, is it pleather? Besides the strange fashion choice in this video we finally hear Taemins little voice. This boy blows me away with his dancing skills, his control over his skinny and tall frame is unbelievable for a boy his age.

This is the update for the past week, Monday 11th to Sunday 17th.

Festival rocks Jamsil to pieces

Two big Concerts took place in two Jamsil stadiums last week, ETPfest and SMTownLive ‘08. There were strange things to pick up in the media about one of them, but clearly they were both marked as successful. ETPfest opened up to a sold out audience opening its doors to over 40,000 spectators within the two days of the festival. The show was undoubtedly awesome and I think we can all be envious to those of which that attended. SMTownLive opened to Jamsil Olympic stadium with a less than enthusiastic response, but still went on to get a lot of positive remarks from the media due to the Big Name performers there.

Big Bang got busy

With Big Bang releasing their mini-album ‘Stand Up‘, it’s no surprise that they would be in the limelight a lot. With the Olympics still going on there is not much attention paid on the Celeb world or Music world since all eyes are on Beijing, yet Big Bang have found their own way to still pop up on the Media Radar.

First it was their crazy concert in Thailand:

Before they started their official promotions of their new mini-album the Big Bang boys held a concert in Thailand, causing many a fan girl to faint. 20 to be exact and it seems YG Entertainment was proud to mention it. “Our boys are studs and can knock you out with a look” is what they said in my head, after mentioning that.

The release of two MVs within a week.

It took a while to get here, “haru haru” of Big Bang that is, yet as soon as they released that MV with actress Park Min Young, we got another surprise with the release of “Oh My Friend” featuring the psychotically entertaining No Brain. I am all for promotion of underrated KRock Artists mainly because the underground K-Music scene is full of awesome talent, but seriously I couldn’t let ‘haru haru’ sink in and then got bombarded with “oh my friend”. Big Bang make it up though with being cute, and well seeing G-Dragon as a mental patient is always nice….

Thailand got lucky

Well to me, they did. Not only did they get Big Bang but soon after they left, Epik High came for promotions and a showcase for over 1000 fans. “We went there without much expectation, and it turned out we have a lot of fans here in Thailand. We were shocked when they sang along with us during our showcase performances. We have a tight schedule here, we are not feeling tired and is advancing smoothly.” Is what Tablo said on a phone interview about their trip. Any Thai fans out there willing to take me in next time they have Epik High around? Better yet any Thai fans that attended either event of Big Bang and Epik High?

SHINee need mouth to mouth resuscitation.

Noona’s, you wish. Well it’s a play on words to SHINees’ new single “You’re like Oxygen” that they teased us with the week before. The 5 young boys performed it at SMTownLive ‘08 (which was like a promotional tool for the upcoming SM plans to be honest), to a big happy response from fans. I am still waiting on the official MV, but in the forums you can get a listen. I hear only Michael Jackson with this song and as the official release is due tomorrow, wait for that. Although there is some controvercy surrounding the originality of this track, I am still giggling at their attempts to man-up these cute little boys.

It’s Wonder JIN?

Mnet is always the place to be for young music pop fans and their events are always fun to keep an eye on. You are bound to get some drama and interesting footage to keep you entertained till the next years version. And Mnet doesn’t want this years Mnet 20’s Choice (last years was the first), to go without some major attention. It’s not enough with their weird awards and choices but they have a strange collab stage going too. Jun Jin of Shinhwa and the Wonder Girls are going to share the stage for something, apparently spectacular. Well that’s what the PD is insisting on (I love how PDs get attention in SK don’t you?), and the PD also claims that after the performance it will by number 1 on search engines…. Ok, we will have our eyes on your project PDnim, but expect our laughter recorded and sent in a package to you if it ends up a joke….

Bae YongJoon forever young

In the heart and soul. The beloved Hallyu star had shoulder surgery recently after his well publicised shoulder ligament injury. After the two injuries Mr. Bae YongJun received after filming his last blockbuster he has been recuperating in the States and now will remain in the hospital for a week. South Korea’s prize smile should keep himself fitter and safer so he can swoon more Ajummas in to the Hallyu Wave…

East of Eden, right down the street

This has gotten tongues wagging for a while now with the uber awesome cast. The cast has a lot of big time names in it that leave your head reeling. Song Seung Hun, Yun Jung Hoon, Park Hae Jin, Lee Da Hae, Lee Yeon Hee, Han Ji Hye, Dennis Oh, Jo Min Ki, Lee Mi Sook, Kim Bum, Shin Eun Jung and many more are set to star in it. The teaser has finally been released and it will be interesting to tune in and see how this drama goes. The plot speaks of revenge, murder and ill-doings, definitely something to watch with a cup of tea and chocolates. Bring it on MBC.

Shinhwa member Jun Jin has finally released his first album, “New Decade”.

The title song “Wa” comes from the Korean word to “come near”. It’s about the peculiar, mysterious psychology that sparks between a man and a woman at the club. Shinhwa will have “SHINHWA MUST GO ON – 10th Anniversary Live” at Seoul Olympic Garden Stadium and Kangta’s in “Eternity – Forever” & fanmeeting in Seoul YeonSeDae hall. Officially the longest running group in the Korean pop music scene is setting to move more into the Japanese and Chinese markets starting with some concerts to kick it off. Shinhwa has already started on their Asian tour first in Nagoya on Dec 6 then they will head to Saitama on Dec 8th and 9th followed by Shanghai on Dec 15th. Here is some news on it:

These concerts are the kick offs for their 10th anniversary and 9th album release coming up next year. At the same time that they started their Asian Tour they released their Winter Story 2007 album.

First song off the winter album is Snowy Night, the MV shows a lot of behind the scenes footage of the group’s recordings, photo shoots, and rehearsals for the winter album and Asian Tour. (i think)

My favorite song off the winter album is track 2 because has a soft smooth (ballad) sound to it compared to 1 and 3, which are more up tempo and dance beats.

I can’t wait for their 9th album to come out next year *so happy don’t know what to do with myself.* heheheheheheh
