As with the end of year countdown, its always expected to have the Gayo DaeJuns (Song Festivals) take place days after each other for all the main broadcasting stations to show-off  or outdo each other with performances.

There’s always the same performances with the same people on SBS, MBC and KBS shows that you sometimes fail to remember which performance they wore that particularly hideous outfit in, or which one made a fool out of so and so, and which show so and so made you want to puke, etc. And believe me, that has become a staple amongst the shows and the obvious favouritism and lack of creativity/originality is insurmountable on these shows, that not watching them isn’t really going to make a difference.

Not to mention the glitches that shouldn’t be made in terms of technical support… How many mics not working, bad camera work, bad timing or lack of synchronisation is there with these things, eh? You would think that with it being an annual thing there wouldn’t be so many mistakes. Think again.

And that’s why, our wonderful readers and trolls, we’re giving you an account of our thoughts on the worth watching mishaps, blunders and just plain EEEEWSIES (as in EEW, what the hell is going on? That’s gross!) in the end of year Gayo DaeJuns… Where Gayo sometimes means KAyo! (GO! Go! GO! away! in Hangul).

Biggest blunder (possibly of all time) SNSD and their over-exposure (in so many shapes and forms).

Lady Gertrude in Shakespeare’s Hamlet said it best, when you try too hard to convince people of something, it most likely is not true….SNSD and SM “Thou Protesteth Too much” when it comes to claiming that your 9 demons have any talent.  Where the hell are the “Supernatural” Brothers  to get rid of the leeching, talentless, unbelievably un-sexy 9 demons of SM Entertainment?  Opening the doors of the Devil (aka Lee Sooman) really did let out some horrible things unto the World.  LOL.  Every performance was full of mishaps and blunders that lack of time could never account to the hideousness of their performances of their songs and/or special collabs.

Let’s get on to business shall we?

While performing G-Ds track “The Leaders”, 2NE1 leader, CL, wore a leotard of some sort with her underwear sticking out at certain places and had peoples panties in a twist since shes under-age. On the other hand, I don’t know if its those monster heels shes got on, or if its the out-fit or the hair but don’t G-D look teeny?

Boys should stay boys

I’m all for boys performing girls songs and vice versa but there’s a fine line between paying tribute and gay-fantasies.

The drag has got to go. (I thought they were “manly manly men!”?)

I actually thought ShinDong was HyunA for his, SHINee and MBLAQs’ performance of 4Minutes “Muzik”. On the plus side, I thought Key and ShinDong really worked it, and well… MBLAQ boys got the dancing down.

I don’t know what it is about Kwon that gets me in fits of laughter, that guy was made for the stage. 2PM/2AM/BEAST joint stage for Brown Eyed girls‘ “Sign” was good. They got those sleepy/dead looks down right, and of course a little Kwon diva moment in between.

I would have been fine with this performance if there was only less of GAH!ee. What was with that spasm in the end? Like a kick but then half way through her heart stopped beating too early and then, commence toppling.

And ofcourse…

Lil’ CL strikes again with her leaotard-ity!

CLs was the best rendition of this cross-dressing nightmare, hands down.

Mostly due to the fact that she IS G-Dragon, female.

Thats what got a reaction outta me from them liberal (Drag? Good!) SBS folks.

Greek Goddess Taemin decided to go for a futuristic look with his Toga. Thats the only way I can make sense of this out-fit, I have no idea what else it could be but it sure as hell left an impression on me.

JYP decided to spice things up with a “sexy” dance performance with Son DamBi. But we all know it was just an excuse to perform female dance moves on stage.

KBS Gayo Daejun was probably the most versatile out of the three, seeing as it wasn’t as much of an Idol Fest as MBC and SBSs’ were.

After School and Son DamBis performance of “When I grow up” certainly shocked me. I don’t know if Gahee was still hung up over performing “Heartbeat” the day before and that she, and apparently the rest of After School and DamBi, had to constantly pop their chests to regain composure, but what the hell was that?

Is Gahee really fluent in English? Cos’ by the sound of it, shes the worse of the lot.

Looks like JYP wants to re-live his youth through the 2PM boys (The sleazy hip thrusts, oh the sleazy hip thrusts!). DJ Jinyoung looking and sounding like a Cockatoo  really had me distracted, especially with the ad libs (lol) and the pleather (not lol).

I know there was probably a lot more to comment on with last years Song festivals but some performances took a lot to mentally block out (The ones that didn’t have “lol”s in them, just “Wtf?”s) and I would rather not re live them O_O(*cough*MBCs-horridly-cheesy-video-intros/attempts-at-creativity/reminder-of-why-their-variety-shows-are-failing*cough*). Plus, if I had to comment on everything disappointing I’d go on forever (Can somebody say Michael Jackson tributes? Where was the passion, where was the fire?).

So, which Gayo Daejun (No matter how exceptionally similar they were) did you like best?

The Mnet Asian Music Awards.

After the sudden and somewhat shocking announcement that the MKMFs were coming to a close after their 10 year anniversary celebration last year, many people were left wondering what would take the place of the dodgy but youth representative end of year Award show. It had been full of plenty of controversies over the years, my favorite, Lee MinWoo throwing a tantrum and leaving JYP to stand on stage looking like a lonely freak show act (or more accurately have that performance cancelled, I prefer my turn of events albeit delusional). Many people thought that some companies could “buy” awards and that the “rules” were only followed for Mnets best interest.

Well that reputation ends and Mnet is trying to renew things with a new stupidly named award show. MAMA is what they’re marketing it as. When I was online a week ago on Naver search, I was wondering why on Earth people wanted to know what MAMA was. Only to leave myself thinking it must be a lot of people on remedial English class. But then when I bothered to check today, I found it as the replacement show.

I don’t know why Mnet would cancel MKMF (except for the controversy but every show has their share, perhaps it will give birth to Korea’s own Kanye West? A K-Blogger can only dream), but all eyes on this baby till it finally airs.

Last years ceremony was a mess and looked rushed, unorganised and sorta cheap so hopefully MAMA will be a better and more entertaining offering. Mnet if you need any help I have a whole list of improvements for you ready at a moments notice.

Anyhow Mnet has not really started things on a mature note, they’ve gotten peoples feathers ruffled with their JaeBom marketing strategies. LOL.

“We want him there!”  Is what they’re screaming.  Making fans think that perhaps JaeBom will be making his comeback on their stage.  And a comeback seems somewhat likely and unlikely according to JYPE.  But then again JYPE don’t really say much so JaeBom showing up anywhere is really possible but not possible at the same time (see what I did there?).

I don’t really care for their strategies to get people watching, but I am wondering on one thing.  Is Mnet sticking to their 9 month ban on SM Entertainment artists?  If that’s the case will they also opt for the “no show- no award” rule?  So even if you vote for an SM artist they wont win?  I imagine it would be a better show all round though, what with all the controversies surrounding SM artists now, as Martha would say  “it’s a good thing.”  That and everyone else will have a better evening and a shot at winning (since SM are up there with the buying trophies controversies).

What the hell died on MinHos head?

I didn’t even know these cute little boys were on their way back. But I guess with one group suing you and the other having someone get charged with DUIs while half are in China, SM needed to have someone back and fast. All these new boybands debuting must have made their panties twist.

Problem though, what the hell have they coughed out? Recycled image, recycled outfits and recycled song? These little ones deserve much better and they look so awkward with the new “concept”.

The video has a slight feel of Mirotic and the hair is so bad I truly wish they’d shave bald. Especially JongHyun and MinHo, I can’t figure out whose got the worst tresses. And the dance moves are definitely lol-worthy. If there is something Im sure they can all do, it’s dance, so why make them circle their pelvises in a perverted old man fashion? O_O

And there is no way in hell SME can try and market these boys as men. They look like they found their way in their Moms makeup bag and decided to play dress up with their Emo cousins clothes.

And the song…. OH THE SONG! It sounded like it was produced by this guy.

SM looked to have conjured up the Crazy frog from Pop Hell and instead of burying that disaster have made it work for them by producing the chorus.

Ah well, at least we get to see them active, it’s nice to see some sweet familiar faces, albeit with some ugly hair styles and mismatched clothing. Yeah its nice to have clothes look good altogether but they need to match the face and personality.

80s revival is so last summer.

We all had our theories where he’s been (I thought he was probably hiking in Japan donning intense facial hair as a disguise with his dad) and we’ll never truly know what he was up to… Unless you’re a fan with that info, unfortunately I don’t actually bother in getting all the details, so I make up my own theories.

Yunho has been acting in his drama with Go ARa “Heading to the Ground” (I hope it wasn’t a premonition about the ratings, hooha!).

JaeJoong and Yoochun have a single out in Japan that’s recently been topping the charts.

Never was there a more random piece of News, one of the main singers of SNSD and one of the worst singers in Kpop, Jessica, who is well known for her “Sica Effect” is doing a Musical? ( The “Sica effect” is pretty much the effect of hearing her nasally annoying voice and as a result getting sick and going WTF?! How fitting).

I mean this is the chick that got upstaged by a Backup dancer, when she performed “NaengMyeon” with Park MyungSoo for the Infinity Challenge special CD performance. This is the girl that her “acting” portfolio consists of “cameo” appearances where other SM talents are doing barely-there supporting roles. This is the girl that only has two facial expressions, pissed off and freaky creepy “Nightmare before Christmas” grin.

If Yoona, aka emotionless cardboard cutout, or “inferius” as ShaBANG likes to call her (wiki it), is their so called “best actress”, then what on Gods Earth is the SICA gonna be? Speaking of HP, Lee SooMan should report to Harry Potter, he’s been a very bad Dark Lord.

Alien Flu has in fact already been spread, not by MiMi as we previously suspected, but by Lee SooMan in his lairs in KangNam overlooking the city for his next victims. Then the music starts and on comes that bad dancing, one forward flip and a dark street in front of a theatre (which I’m guessing is their workplace).

I’m lost, really, cos I figured I would give SM some credit, and since they have NOONE PROMOTING right now, so they’re pretty much free (besides their legal department), they would make this something decent.

And um… two of them are 15, one is 15 and the others still 14?! Surely the whole prostitution theme is a little bit inappropriate…And plus, SNSD already have those grounds covered (Tell THEM your wish, not the minors).

I may be overreacting but whatever, a company like SM with their experience with the market and large production staff and marketing team should have made a better job with this.   Rather than make a member pretty much look and sound like a confused hermaphrodite surrounded by leather clad ladies. And the dancing is so much of a SHINee rip off, recycling, nice. While SHINee can dance these girls can…. do what exactly? Lacha tata?

Even though the first impression was a disaster, I’m still going to give these girls a chance. Ahh right their called f(x) (에프엑스), as in fox or fix or whatever it’s hard to care with that monstrosity of a teaser debut.

She seems like the oldest, she has experience in both China and Korea as a CF model and featured in Super Junior Ms “U” and SHINees debut song “Noona is so Pretty”. And this Chinese lass is quite the pretty one.

Krystal Jung (1994):

The one that’s pretty much has a lot of the spotlight right now, SNSDs Jessicas little sister. Also known as the “pretty one”, and the “scandal-less one” in the Jung Family.  No matter what, I see her as quite plain and the only thing that sticks out to me is her nose… It looks like it can poke someones eye out, sister should be careful when she’s dancing, or flailing her arms and legs wildly like they do in the teaser.

Sulli (1994):

For the Child actress member, it’s quite interesting to see only this picture being spread around for the time being, expect to see more soon. But I can’t help but think of a sentence in an English Drama I once watched, “Oh dear I think he just sullied his pants”… :/ I may just think of that every time I see her now…

All of you have probably been reading up, in perhaps, the largest case this time round with SM Entertainment. Every time they reach their peak they seem to find a way to dwindle back down again.

Some of you will remember when ShinHwa left SM, and even less of you will remember when H.O.T broke up. Each time was unique unto its own, but one thing was a constant, SMs mishandling and mistreatment of their stars. This time it’s DBSKs turn to face them head on.

No one at their highest form would want to drop from the label that made them famous. If anything they should have a loyalty with each other, a loyalty that goes beyond a legal contract, a deep bond and trust that comes from years of training and years of being an active star under the guide of their company.

But when things like this happen over and over again, it makes it clear who one should trust when a lawsuit like this, or a discussion like this arises. “Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me”. And this being the third time with their biggest active stars, the public should follow that saying properly and stop being fooled. No one is saying it’s time to blind ourselves, deafen our ears and just follow whatever the DBSK lawyers say. No, but to see through the media guise that SM have been using.

It’s undeniably clear who are indeed the “victims” and who are the wolves in wannabe sheep clothing are.

Honestly, I always had low expectations when it came to SM. But when the figures came out from the DBSK lawyers my eyes still popped out of their sockets.

I thought it was bad, real bad, and my expectations were low, real low, but SM still managed to beat my expectations and make me see that I in fact didn’t give them enough credit with their slave contracts.

a 13 year contract?

In the Entertainment business, that is a contract for showbiz LIFE. And it being 13 years means that they signed it before they debuted and of course were underage. Wow, talk about low.

And I have no doubt in believing that SM knew that DBSK would be big. Think about it, if you want boy bands you go to SM, they know how to make them well, especially the 5 member boy band. They did it once with H.O.T, had an extra member with Shinhwa, and even though they’re expectations were low in the beginning with Shinhwa, they proved themselves worthy and turned out amazing. So, even in their negligence they still had a great group that dominated. And by just looking and listening at DBSK, even before they take the stage, you could tell that these boys were going places.

What I guess pissed me off the most, is the amount of control that SM had over these poor boys lives.
Everything, big or small was controlled by them, one week holidays in a year, having to comply to SMs scheduling, without contest, having to pretty much do anything and everything they say to you and when you complain are ignored?

That is, quite simply, stripping them of their basic rights as human beings. Having no free will pretty much means you are a slave.

It’s outrageous. And what is even more devious to me is SMs handling of the other two of DBSK. At the time that the three DBSK boys in question were spotted heading to lawyers offices’, SM suddenly announced a change of schedule for Yunho, a new drama, and days later came news of Changmin working on a new drama. It pretty much looked like a known war tactic, divide and conquer.

Whats worse for SM than all 5 standing united against them? That would probably cause a larger dive in stock too. And what this does is, do the best damage SM would want to the masses, create doubt. “Why not all 5?” … “JaeJoong, YooChun and Junsu are selfish/suffering/betrayed/malicious…..” “Yunho and Changmin are cowardly/loyal/traitors/selfish….” This splits the fans a part and makes the public/shareholders wonder.

And what do DBSK need the most now? Support. From fans and the public alike.

So far even with JaeJoong, Yoochuns and Junsus press release, there is one clear thing there. They are talking about DBSK as a unit, and not them on their own. And them gaining anything would be for all their sakes. And I don’t really think talking about the Cosmetics Company is even worth the bother, because clearly, that is not the issue at all, just a tactic by SM to deviate from the true issue. Talking about the Cosmetics company is as futile as talking about Lee SooMans venture in to the Wine making business.

Let’s attack the points DBSK stated in their Press release:

The 13 Year Contract:

- Cancelling the exclusivity clause means triple the amount of Investment by SM and double the loss in earnings.
- Cancelling the contract amounts to moneys we can never dream of knowing how large they are.

- Album earnings: Don’t sell over 500K, get nothing.

It’s insane when you look at it plainly. So basically, there is no way out, because they’re not even paid a quarter of how much they need to get these clauses lifted from their contract, and will only dream of getting paid the amount that gets them to cancel their contracts. Another note, if they ever so wish to invest in something that may get them a decent amount of money outside the entertainment industry, SM will make sure to blow it out of proportion and make them look like villains (cosmetics business issue). So SM pretty much left them so suffocated, that the only time they can breathe is when they’re so worn out, that they mentally and physically can’t get anywhere afterwards. Nice, that’s a good way to enslave someone, I’ll take note of it when my soul evaporates and my morals are eaten by the Easter Bunny.

DBSKs complaints:
- SM keeps avoiding the true issue.
- No matter how many times they have asked for revisions made, they have been turned away.
- They have been defamed by claims of greed and betrayal about a cosmetics company.
- They lost faith in any rational negotiations and have had to resort to legal actions.
- SM twisted everything cos they know that we’re saying the truths.
- They made us lose the will to continue our dreams.
- We want to stay as one, so bloody hell just comply and let us all be happy.

I may have rephrased things slightly, but that’s the gist of things. What makes me wonder the most is, if SM gets such monstrously huge percentages from their artists, how on Gods Green Earth do they manage to fall in to deficit? O_O

And the first response to the press release?

SM said:

We hired a lawyer-man!

When I saw articles about their one response about them hiring a lawyer I couldn’t help but laugh, you have to have a legal department or at least a legal consultant already, how else would you have contracts SMarties?

But then they went out full force…

SMs claims:
- They made 11Billion Won now, so get over it!
- We gave them expensive gifts, FOREIGN and expensive gifts… See, we can be nice!
- That money doesn’t include CFs, endorsements, etc.
- We told them they would get tired before they did this, so there!
- Come on, come on, there’s only THREE OF THEM involved in this case, of course it’s all about makeup, so they can keep up their image and market the products as their own!
- There is no law that says we can’t have contracts longer than 7 years! yay for loopholes!
- There’s no law saying singers can’t promote overseas, stop your belly-aching!
- We changed the exclusivity rights clause a few times, here’s some dates and some reasons why, but we wont tell you what the conditions were.
- We’re slave-drivers and we love it!

Again, I twisted some wording myself, but the message is still the same, and I figure someone has to twist SMs words, its not fair, they do it to everyone, they should get hit with it! Nonetheless, SMs figures seem a little shady, no specifics again. Was it pre-tax, how much did they actually get? Would it be so hard to actually produce the accounts and then let the courts tell us the figures as opposed to your one figure and no proof?

About the wonderful gifts, it’s nice to know that you think you’re their Sugar Daddies. Mentioning gifts seems like they’re trying to make up for something…over compensation anyone? And there’s word going round that the cars that the boys have aren’t in fact gifts from SM, but under SMs name and not theirs. So, DBSK are pretty much borrowing them.

And Japan and China and all their other activities, where does that money go…. Most importantly, those hundreds of concerts they’ve done? Again, where do you put that moneys SM, who does it go to?

I addressed this before and I knew it would come up from mighty SM, the fact that only 3 are involved in this. Well, SM, if you victimise someone long enough, twist them and prod them, force them to do so much, and then make them out to be evil doers who invest their money in makeup, that they wont stand up for themselves? And evidently, it isn’t above SM to manipulate others and their schedules, so could it have been possible that they made YunHo and ChangMins schedule so busy that they physically could not be able to consult with lawyers and sign agreements saying they will partake in a court case as such? And seriously, trust them to bring it up so many times, if they keep it bringing it up I’m going to brand the SM board as drag queens who like to put on Chinese makeup every weekend and are jealous that the boys are shareholders and not them.

I think I’ve rattled on for long enough, but no matter what, this is probably the case to keep your eye on, fan or no fan, this is the biggest group in Asia and one of the biggest entertainment companies in Korea. I won’t guarantee that I’ll be covering this, I just found the press release so ludicrous that I couldn’t keep my ramblings for my own private journal.

Fans should, of course, keep the faith in their boys. This lawsuit by the three was probably the hardest decision they have had to make in their entire lives. The stress that comes with it, the bashing, the war that will ensue, the character defamation, the effect on reputation and of course the effect on family is just so immense. Junsus dad was even harassed at their pizza place for some words on it, with which he gave no comment. They knew it would happen and still went through with it, knowing also that SM would have a strong hold on the media. So it just seems incredibly petty to think it would simply be about a cosmetics business, don’t you think?

Where are all of yous?

Boys you have my support, keep on truckin and change those contracts for good! It worries me to think that kids as young as 6 may have this kind of thing in store for them in the future. Hopefully this means that all contracts under SM will be revised. Slave Management Entertainment needs a complete legal reform and hopefully this will be the new beginning and the kick in the backside to get them treating people like human beings.
