Back again this week with an update on the past weeks’ news, events and gossip. This week in terms of news was somewhat slow, but keeps us anticipated for what’s to come. Check out our own news compilation:

The gold hearted legend that is Kim JangHoon, has been admitted to hospital and is there to this day. On the 28th he was performing in his “SoHaean Festival” which was in support of the West Coast Oil Spill residents in Taean, which is till plaguing them to this day. While performing in the middle of the stage, it started to rain and Mr. JangHoon slipped. He couldn’t get up again, and it was later revealed that he had fainted and was sent to the emergency room in a nearby hospital. Kim JangHoon has been in the business for years, donating a percentage of his profits through out his career to innumerable charities and graced the stage with plenty of the new generations best loved stars. We hope he gets better and takes a good rest.
It’s starting to get frustrating the amount of celebrities weekly being admitted to hospital due to exhaustion. He joins this weeks other exhauastee Micky Yoochun of DBSK. I’m thinking of dedicating an entire section of this weekly segment just for this. It is after all a recurring theme.
A lot of this week’s news surrounds teen idol groups, Wonder Girls and Big Bang.

Two of the Wonder Girls girls are proving that they can multi task like no other. As well as promoting their own group Single “So Hot”, SunYe and YeEun are featuring on Mighty Mouth’s “Energy” and OneTwos “Bad Girl” respectively. They’re also riding high in the charts, in their 4th consecutive week as Number 1. JYP must be dancing the “Tell Me” in celebration. Here’s the Singles Chart for this week. Credits go to edward1849 of Soompi.
-June Week 4-
1. Wonder Girls - So Hot.
2. Tae Yang - 나만 바라봐 (Watching Only You)
3. SHINee - 누난 너무 예뻐 (Noona’s Pretty (Replay))
4. V.O.S - Beautiful Life
5. SG Wannabe - 라라라 (LaLaLa)
6. Gavy NJ - Lie
7. Jewelry - 모두 다 쉿! (Everybody Shhh!)
8. MC Mong - 서커스 (Circus)
9. Kim Jong Wook - 그대만이 (My Only)
10.Super Junior Happy - 요리왕 (Cooking? Cooking!)
Big Bang has also been riding high in the news, not to be outdone by their female counterparts.
T.O.P is accepting acting gigs.

It seems he’s been cast in the Drama “I.R.I.S“, set in the states where T.O.P is an undercover detective hunting an assassin. Besides the plot being very ambitious and the production costs being over 20 million Dollars, it shocks me that they would cast such an inexperienced actor in a lead role. But it seems that talent is never really an issue nowadays. T.O.P was previously cast in the mini-drama ‘I am Sam‘ with Yang DongGun. His acting was somewhat bland in that, let’s hope he does a better job this time.
DaeSung cast in world famous musical.

‘Cats‘ the well loved musical has been translated in to Korean and will start its rounds in Seoul in September. DaeSung of Big Bang was cast as Rum Tum Tugger, the ladies man of ‘Cats’. For some reason I really doubt that DaeSung knew what he was getting in to. For one, he needs to wear LYCRA, get face painted to death and shake his pelvis like no other. If you guys don’t know the Rum Tum Tugger, check out this youtube clip and get well acquainted.

Now I cant wait to see that performance. I wonder if the V.I.Ps are eager to see it too.
You don’t have to be seen to be Number 1

Brown Eyes have made their comeback in the form of a new album. The management companies that use the “spread your artists around real thin” for publicity angle must be angry, since Brown Eyes are nowhere to be seen and their album sold a respectable 15,000 copies since its release the previous Thursday to the last. Its bizarre to me how a number 1 spot in singles goes to a group like the Wonder Girls and the album top spot goes to Brown Eyes, they just seem like polar opposites to me. The Korean Music Industry is ever surprising.
Tribute to Jewelry

Son DamBi, Bae SeulGi, Brown eyed girls’ GaIn and Joo
Besides this quartet being the most random group of all time, the ridiculousness doesn’t end there. They will be laying tribute to Jewelry this coming week on Music Bank. Why they’ve picked this particular four I do not know, but apparently the higher ups at Music Bank think Jewelry are more worthy of a cover than perhaps, Fin.K.L, Baby V.O.X (without the bloody ReV) and S.E.S. Worse yet, they’re covering “One More Time”. So please don’t make any plans this Friday, make sure you catch Music Bank, if you’re not wowed by the performances I’m sure you’ll be laughing. Son DamBi is getting busy lately with anything and everything under the sun, besides living up to her ‘Female Rain’ hype. She’s featuring on Sung SiKyung new music video as his love interest and heats it up with a kiss scene. A hard day’s work for Son DamBi.
Channel S

It’s difficult enough in South Korea to download music, search for pictures and view videos, and for that reason, the new technology saviours that are Channel SBSi and SM Entertainment have concocted a new revolutionary service called ‘Channel S’. Yes, of course this is not another ploy to get money; it’s a gift to the unresourceful public. I’m being sarcastic of course. This is a new system for mobile phone users that provides them with pictures, videos, ring tones, shows and all the other things you don’t need on your mobile, strictly SM and SBS related. The commencement ceremony took place on the 25th June and SHINee and Super Junior Happy were present. It’s available now and I’m sure it’s going to be insanely popular.
Dongducheon Rock Festival

We gave you news last week of the Seo Taiji’s comeback Rock festival, but now there seems to be competition. Dongducheon Rock Festival is taking place on August 15th to 17th, which is the same time ETPfest is supposed to be taking place; both are annual summer rock festivals. International as well as national stars will be contributing to this festival as well. The line-up includes artists such as Moon HeeJun, N.EX.T, Guyz, Crying Nut, Dr Core 911, Vanilla Unity, Cherry Filter, Boohwal, Transfixion, Maya, Super Kidd and many more. The only downside to this is picking which festival to attend.
It’s also great news that Epik High are preparing a new single for this coming Autumn.

As you guys know, the following groups have been nominated for Favorite Artist - Korea:
1.) Big Bang
2.) So Nyuh Shi Dae
3.) Super Junior
4.) Wonder Girls
Some of you might be wondering “Why isn’t DBSK on that list?!” Well, if you were up to date with those overworked boys you’d know that they spent most of last and this year working their butts off in Japan.
With that being said, these nominees were chosen through a survey among music industry officials and journalists, but the fans, who can vote online, can choose the winner.
What exactly was in those surveys you might ask? Could it be how popular they are? How many awards they’ve won? Well, the second question is plausible since each group has won their share of awards.

Big Bang
These boys debuted in August 2006 and since then they have won multiple awards such as “(Cyworld) Rookie of the Month),” “(Cyworld) Song of the Month” (three times!), No. 1 Song Of The Year, 2007 Best Asian newcomer or breakthrough for French people (what? such an award exists?!), Best Male Group, etc etc. They’ve also released 3 singes which tallied up to 101,296 sales altogether! And let’s not forget: their first album sold a nice 110,408 copies. Despite their group activities, the boys also had activities outside of Big Bang: T.O.P ventured into acting, Seung Ri into musicals, Tae Yang just released his solo album, and Dae Sung will soon have a “trot” debut.
Vote for Big Bang here

So Nyuh Shi Dae
Girls’ Generation debuted a year after Big Bang in August 2007. Their awards include a few such as Best New Female Group, Anycall Popularity & Newbie Awards, and “(Cyworld) Song of the Month”. The girls have only released one single “Into the new world” (for some reason the title reminds of a “A Whole New World”…) which sold 31,369 copies and their debut album, “Girls’ Generation” sold 111,093 copies. Despite only releasing one single, these girls were promoted heavily and did activities in other areas such as MCing and acting. Another wonder here would be “Why are they nominated? What about the incident at the Dream Concert?” Well, these groups were chosen based on their musical works (albums and such), not concerts.
Vote for SNSD here

Super Junior
Super Junior originally debuted in November 2005 as twelve members with the name Super Junior 05, but after the addition of member Kyu Hyun in 2006, they dropped “05″ and were said to be a permanent group. The boys awards’ list include Photogenic Award, Best New Group, Mobile Popularity Award, Newface, Most Popular Music Video, Best New Asian Artist, Best Performance, Appreciation awards and many more (there’s a whole freakin’ page dedicated to their awards!) Since 2005, the boys have released multiple singles as a whole group or as sub groups such as Super Junior-K.R.Y., Super Junior-T, Super Junior-M, and their current sub group, Super Junior (H)appy. Singles from Super Junior as a whole and their sub group Super Junior T equaled to a very nice 137,414 copies sold. That tally does not include Super Junior’s Happy current popular single “Cooking? Cooking!” Their two albums, SuperJunior05 and Don’t Don combined to an amazing figure of 259,579 copies sold.
Vote for SUJU here

Wonder Girls
These girls debuted in early 2007, but did not reach popularity until later in the year. The Wonder Girls have received awards such as Best New Female Group, Digital Bonsang, Song of the Year, Female Photogenic Award, Best Special Stage, Best New Singer, and more. Their two singles, “The Wonder Begins” and “So Hot” have sold 27,317 copies, with So Hot still in the charts. Their first album “The Wonder Years” sold at least 66,409 copies. Despite not having high numbers like their competitor, Girls’ Generation, Wonder Girls took the industry by storm with their “Tell Me” dance. Many videos of fans doing the “Tell Me” dance circulated on Youtube and Daum. Even celebrities such as Shin Hye Sung, Hong Kyung-min, and Kim Tae Hee would dance to this song at their own fan meetings! Their new song, “So Hot” has created a new addicting “V Line” dance for fans to follow.
Vote for Wonder Girls here
So, after getting schooled on the nominees for favorite artist, I think fans can more or less make an educated choice.
My vote goes to Wonder Girls, although there’s a good chance Super Junior will win this award…
Note: The results after you’ve casted your vote may be wrong (don’t know why~), but do not be discouraged from voting!

All the negatively from a charity concert really does bring a person down, don’t you think? With all the raping and stabbing and what not, what good really came out of the concert?
THE PERFORMANCES! That’s what! The performances by the artists shows what the Dream Concert was all about!
Lets start with the Red Carpet
DBSK was sadly not seen at the RC…but check out these other hot stars!
Shinee

You almost forget that they’re a new boyband because there has been so much media towards them! It almost doesn’t feel quite right for them to be performing at the concert since they’re so new, but hell, Lee Soo Man has his ways. (But what’s with their shoes…? I mean, you hear of band conformity, but isn’t that a bit too much..?)
Epik High

SS501

You don’t have to be SNSD’s #1 enemy to like them, #2 is pretty okay, too.
Super Junior

Poor Siwon got hurt, so he was there. Although the rest of them looked pretty sleek in all black. (Yes Suju fans, it is indeed the original 13 – 12 since Siwon wasn’t there, but you catch my drift)
SNSD

In order to keep this post as anti free as possible, I have no comment on them other than: I bet you Bonerifics and Delusionfuls are having quite a hoot staring at them, aren’t ya’?
MC Mong

Me gusta his pose and whatever the hell he’s wearing!
Jewerly

Seriously not digging the bowl cut.
Wonder Girls

I’m not too excited about Ye Eun’s and dress, but the rest of them look pretty good. Sohee is a cute little dumpling and Sun Ye is looking “so hot-hot”! (Yoonbin just looks like she’s been out in the sun for about 8 hours)
Popping Hyunjoon

Mighty Mouth

I could either say nothing at all, or say something really mean. Therefore I chose the latter:
Outfits need to go. Now. And grow some hair boy.
A’ST1

Nothing much to say about them. Music’s pretty good, that’s all.
Perfomances
Opening - SMTown (Suju + SNSD + Shinee)
Shinee

One of the better performances of the concert! F-f-f;asssshyy….ganstuuuuh.
Wonder Girls

Oh no~ Please leave me alone~ xD Not to crazy about the outfits, but loving the song~
Just wish Sun Ye didn’t wore those pants…she needed to be “seckushyy” like the rest of girls.
(Seckushy, new term, learn it.)
Super Junior

Yesung and his pants. XD
ALL 13!

DBSK

Min: MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM~ I loooove you~~~~~

Oh yes. Rip it.

Is Yoochun giving Su an orgy…? xD

Be~au~ti~ful~~
watch?v=0RWhyygvuoM
watch?v=w8tXFFje_ew
I don’t know which was better…the 08 or the 07 performances. Whoa. These boys never fail to amaze me!
To sum everything up in one sentence: Yoosu is love, Jae’s arms are wonderful, Changmin ain’t a boy no ‘mo, and Yunho is sex. (Bite me for my grammar)
SNSD

If I ever wore anything that short, my daddy won’t hesitate to kill me!
Meh. Once again, no comment.
SS501

And the highlight of the show~

*laughs* sorry for the fangirlism! See, if you look at the brighter side of things, you realize that they 2008 Dream Concert wasn’t as bad as it seemed! Sure the fans got riled up and other what-nots, but these concert itself was a success. People are forgetting that this is indeed a charity concert for orphans and it accomplish its objective. THEREFORE, the concert was GREAT!

What’s up? Just wanted to share this amazing b-boy dance battle, supposedly the “Biggest Online Dance Battle” by ACDC (Adam/Chu Dance Crew). You might have seen this already, maybe not. But this is in response for those who stuck up for me for my NLT v. Big Bang article. I realize I might have written a rash commentary purposely ignoring the fact that boy bands originated in the U.S. Of course, I knew that. And of course, NLT is NOT copying Big Bang. I’m not an idiot…but I do feel a bit enlightened with the evidence-based discussions that many of the readers offered (thank you!). I don’t feel like the readers were attacking me; rather, they were critically forming opinions about trends in the music scene and, most of all, not just believing in what they’re told.
All I’ve got to say is that NLT is a very unique, talented boy band that just debuted in the wrong country. (Not that they can’t succeed in the U.S.) The U.S. is just not ready for them right now…If they had debuted in any other country, they would be an instant idol sensation. Ironically, NLT is “trapped” in the U.S. (that happens to be the music powerhouse that everyone wants to break into, i.e. Se7en and Rain). In this age of globalization, language is no longer a barrier. They should be performing around the world, not just in the states. Anyway, enjoy the vid, featuring Adam Sevani and (what d’ya know) NLT, and many other amazing dancers. You can check out jonmchu’s actual youtube site for the entire list of dancers and celebs in the vid.

By the way, this all relates to Kpop because Korea happens to be the B-boy powerhouse. Don’t worry, I know B-Boying originated from the U.S. too!…(more specifically from the Bronx). Yet Korea has come to rival dancers from all over the world and win many international B-Boy competitions. Check out this clip from Planet B-Boy, a documentary of the B-Boy phenomenon, that claims Korea is “untouchable”.
